Product Review – ReadyRamp

Posted:

There is no doubt that we get to test and review some pretty cool products at Fullnoise.com.au, but maybe the most useful product we have been sent to put to the test this year has been the ReadyRamp from the guys at readyramp.com.au.

After moving from an enclosed trailer to a 4x4 Ute in the form of a Nissan Navara D22 last year, I had been trying a few different products to help both load bikes on and off the back of the tray and also to help secure everything esle we carry when heading out for a quick ride for the day, or spending the weekend away racing and have had some success with various products along the way, but nothing has been as easy to use and as effective as the ReadyRamp.

We took hold of the ReadyRamp in late July, receiving the product in the same kit form it comes in when you order one online.

The majority of the Ramp comes already to go, with just the ramp rungs needing to be installed individually with the self tapping screws that are all supplied. With an electric drill in hand we had all the rungs in place and the ramp ready to go in about 30 minutes.

At 2.26 Meters long the ReadyRamp makes loading up a breeze after a long day of riding.
With our ReadyRamp assembled it was time to see how it worked. I know you are thinking, how hard could it be to use a ramp!

The ReadyRamp is more than a ramp, not only is it used to load bikes on and off the back of our Navara or any ute for that matter, but it also folds down to act as a Tray Extender, making it a very versatile product, that not only extents the length of your Ute's tray, but also ensures more room is made available in the tray as the ramp you need to carry becomes your "Saftey Net" and gives you that extra peice of mind that nothing is going to slide straight off the back of your vehicle while you are traveling down the highway.

The ramp that is made from 6061 aluminium with cast aluminium hinges and comes in at 2.26 Meters long when fully extended, which is longer than any of the previous ramps that I had tried. The longer ramp means a reduced incline when loading up our Suzuki RM-Z 250 and on flat ground I can get away with just using the single ramp to load and unload our bike.

At 370mm wide the ramp is more than wide enough to accommodate any dirt bike and with a single point load capacity of 272kg, bike weight is never going to be an issue and weighing in at just under 10kg it is light way and easy to move around.

Securing the ramp on to the Ute once your bike is loaded could not be more simple. The ramp comes with a variety of attachments to suit most vehicles to ensure a secure fit. In our case with the Nissan Navara D22, the ramp is held on via a upper hook on each side that locks into the existing locking point for the tail gate, with a lower attachment taking advantage of the locking pins on the tray itself.
Securing the ready ramp to the back of the Ute's tray could not be easier and takes less than 30 second to transform from Ramp To Tray Extender and lock in place
At the time of receiving the ramp there were no online instructions or images for each individual vehicle, but a quick email to the guys at readyramp.com.au had me sorted with the guys at readyramp.com.au also since updating the site with instructions for individual vehicles that can be found https://www.readyramp.com.au/tried-and-tested and https://www.readyramp.com.au/s/RR-Installation-Instructions_July2014.pdf

The readyramp takes around 30 seconds to transform from ramp form, to being completely locked in place on the back of our Nissan as a Tray Extender and the same short amount of time to take off the back of the Ute in extender formation to ramp form ready to unload.

All in all we could not be more happy with the ReadyRamp, it has proven to be the perfect answer for ensuring that everything is safely locked into the back of the ute along with our bike and makes unloading and loading our Suzuki RM-Z250 a breeze.

- One thing to note is, as with any vehicle accessory the vehicle must continue to comply with all Australian Design Rules (ADRs). Just like bicycle racks, use of the ReadyRamp may require an auxiliary licence plate holder and lighting (example here)to maintain this compliance.

It is best to check your specific vehicle and relevant state or territory requirements to see what you require.
We could not be any more happy with the Ready Ramp and plan on putting it to full use for a very long time to come.
