Modern off-road bikes are incredibly capable machines, but crashes and impacts remain part of the sport. That’s why protective components like handguards, bashplates, and radiator guards are essential for riders who want to finish rides, races, and trail days without mechanical failures cutting things short.
Fortunately, Yamaha already provides a solid starting point on the WR250F, with both handguards and a bashplate fitted as standard equipment. Those additions immediately improve the bike’s readiness for real off-road riding.
Radiator guards remain one item still on the list for this build, with David Hogan explaining how vulnerable radiators can quickly end a ride after even a relatively small crash. Additional protection in this area is seen as a key investment for riders planning to race or tackle tougher terrain.
The message throughout is that protection upgrades are not necessarily about improving outright performance — they’re about maintaining performance and keeping the bike operational when conditions become challenging.
