Fullnoise: Phillip Island this weekend is going to be a big round for the sport of Supercross, with tens of thousands of spectators at the Australian Motorcycle GP having the chance to walk across and check out not just the on track action, but also the off track set up that the teams have. How important is this round to IEG as a company and SX going forward.
Konsky: It’s extremely important we have made a sizeable investment with well over $200,000 being spent on bringing the event to the fans. This is a marketing strategy that i hope works as we do not get one cent from anyone to stage this event. We don’t get any gate takings, food sales, alcohol sales, merchandise sales. We have paid to show our sport of to a new market which is integral if we want to increase brand acceptance and exposure. Which hopefully will translate into more bike sales.
Fullnoise: This weekend sees Chad Reed start his three race appearance at the Terex Australian Supercross series, how much of a bonus is it to have Reed race the series during the championships first year.
Konsky: Its huge, having someone of his creditability have faith in our abilities and support it makes all of the difference.
Fullnoise: Phillip Island will be a different set up compared to the other three rounds in 2012, so we will really have to wait another couple of weeks to see the Show that is the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross championship. What improvements do you have planned for Toowoomba and Newcastle after the first event at Dubbo?
Konsky: We have tightened the show up, focused on choreographed freestyle show and brought in some more off track integrated programs.
Fullnoise: I know we still have a long way to go in the 2012 series. Knowing you have the series locked in for the next few years, are you already starting to plan for 2013?
Konsky: Yes we will have many changes to implement for next year as well as some new venues.
Fullnoise: At this point in time how many rounds would you be looking to expand to in 2013
Konsky: Minimum 5, maximum 7.
Thanks for taking the time out of your hectic schedule at the moment to answer these questions
Konsky: No problem, Thanks
For those wondering about the telecast of the first round that has been reported to air tomorrow night (Friday the 26th of October) on the Speed Channel on the Foxtel network, I checked with Yarrive last night and he has told us the race will be on air.
