Cody Mackie was firmly listed as a hot favorite going into the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals for the Pro Lites honors.

One not so straight leg!!!
Mackie's star has steadily risen and 2008 looked to be his year with some blistering performances in warm up races a lot of experts had him fighting out the title with the likes of his Kawasaki Racing team-mate Luke George, Woodstock Honda's Kade Mosig and Motorex KTM's Ryan Marmont and Todd Waters to name a few. As fate would have it though he never made it to the starting line after injuring himself in a warm up race. I gave him a quick call to see what exactly happened and where he is at.

Insider: So Cody For everyone that doesn't already know about your injury give us a quick run down on exactly what you did when, where etc?

Cody:I sustained a left fractured femur on the 24th of february. It was the first moto of the second round of the Sunny State Series in Coolum. I was in the lead coming into a sweeping corner and before i knew the front started to drift and then it high-sided me off at a high speed.

Insider: How hard was it to swallow that you wouldn't be able to contest this years Mr MX series because from all reports you were one of the guys to beat?

Cody:Mate this was probably the hardest thing in my life to swallow, I put myself in the possible shape to win this year by fully funding myself to USA for 2 months. I sacrifised alot to go there for that long and not many people understand that. I am just very lucky that my best mate (Reardon) lives there now and did nothing but help me get my goal this year, which was a national title.

Insider: So What have the doctors said or more to the fact when to you plan on riding and making a race comeback?

Cody:I have been seeing my doctor quiet reguarly and i have another appointment with him this wednesday. We both agrees that we are not putting a date on my comeback because i dont want to get my hopes up for something that might not happen. I saw him at the 5 week mark with some new xrays and he was very pleased and said my xrays look about 7-8 weeks old. I want to come back when i am 100% fit and ready to win again.

Insider: Since the Injury give us a little insight into What's been Keeping you occupied besides training and doctors?

Cody: I never realised how much racing took up my time whether it was going practising or cleaning my bike or going away on fridays to race or what not.. I was on the stationary cycle at 5 weeks so i have done alot of that and also doing my programs that Andy Cunningham KRT's new trainer.

Insider: Now Once your back riding is there any plans on heading back to the US of A at the end of the year?

Cody: I really want to go back to the states when i am better, i think it helps me alot. I did have expectations of myself this year and even though i cant win the MX series now but im sure if i finish off strong people might still offer me something over there, but that is stuff i havent thought alot about since my injury as getting back to my peak and winning some races is my goal right now.

Insider: Well thanks for being our fox Monday insider Mackdaddy hopefully next time we speak will be when your back on the podium any last thank you's ?

Cody: Thank you you guys for having me and i would like to say a huge thanks to my family for never giving up, KRT for backing me all the way and my close mates that have kept me focused on my one goal in life. I cant wait to get back to racing.
