YRT’s Mike Jones gets WSBK Superstock 600 start for German round

Posted:

Brisbane based speedster, Mike Jones, has the opportunity of a lifetime when he hits that starting grid for the Yamaha mounted MtM Racing team at the upcoming round of the World Superbike Championship at Nurburging, Germany, in early September.

18 year old Jones will compete on the familiar Yamaha R6 machine, a bike that he has tasted plenty of success on here in Australia, winning the 2011 Australian Superstock 600cc Championship and now races with his factory supported YRT (Yamaha Racing Team) outfit at the Australian FX 600cc championship.

Those impressive results raised the eyebrows of the MtM Racing Manager, Rob Vennegoor, who invited Jones over for the guest appearance and race for the MtM team in the Superstock 600cc class at the upcoming round of the WSBK.

"I'm excited to give this opportunity to Mike," states manager Rob Vennegoor. "His results combined with his knowledge of Yamaha's R6 means he is a worthy addition to the team and I look forward to seeing what he brings to the race track."

Jones is equally excited and the chance to race at such a high profile event has him chomping at the bit to get to Europe and get on the race track.

"It was hard to believe a team from Europe contacted me and asked me to race their bikes at a world event," Jones said excitedly. "The team has a great reputation with their rider Jed Metcher winning the Superstock class for MtM racing last year and they have again logged good results in 2012."

"It's a chance of a life time and I'm thankful to everyone at MtM Racing, Yamaha Australia and YRT for working together to make this come about. I can't wait to get over there," Jones signs off.

Mike will join the MtM Racing team for the next round of the WSBK at the Nurburging Circuit to be held on September 7-9.
