Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd each added a 2011 Shell Advance Sunshine Series win after round seven of the championship was completed at Toowoomba's Echo Valley over the weekend.
Dinsdale entered the penultimate round just needing to finish the opening moto in the points to claim the series win for the second year in a row in the 13 to 14 years Lites. Dinsdale did more than that to not only win the opening race, he won all three on his YZ250F in another awesome display from the Mackay flyer. He now has a whopping 169 point lead going into the final round and has only lost two races all series in this class.
And to top off his weekend, he also contested the 13 to 15 years 125cc division and again came away with the round win and extended his lead in the series points' standings. His 2-1-1 results for the day were hard earned as he fought his way through the field in the opening two motos before holeshotting the last and racing away for a convincing win. He now holds a 48 point lead with one round to go.
"Everything went pretty smoothly today which was nice," Dinsdale said. "I had a stupid crash at home a couple of weeks ago and hurt my shoulder so I have been unable to ride until just before this race so it was nice to just get back on the bike and go for a ride again."
Wilson Todd is not a man to stand in anyone's shadow and matched Dinsdale by taking out the series win in the 12 to 15 years 85cc class. Todd had a tough day at Echo Valley by his high standards but still managed to stretch his lead out to 77 points at days' end and therefore can't be beaten. Todd finished the day with 2-DNF ‰ÛÒ 3 results to round out the day in seventh place.
His consistency is also paying huge dividends in the 13 to 15 years 125cc class. Todd racked up 7-7-6 finishes on his YZ125 for the day and has now moved into third for the series, an outstanding effort for his first year on the bigger bike and in a very competitive class.
As soon as racing was completed, Todd was headed straight back to Cairns before flying out first thing Monday morning to represent his country at the FIM World Junior Motocross Championships in Italy.
"The last week or so has just been so busy," Todd explains. "My riding today wasn't great as I didn't want to do anything silly and not go to Italy. But, it's over now and it's cool to win on the 85 and I'm stoked to be third on the 125."
The eighth and final round of the Sunshine State Series takes place at Kilcoy in September where the YJR riders will have one final hit-out before the Australian Junior Motocross Championships in October.
