Yamaha Thumper-X washout final

Posted:

The final round of the Yamaha Thumper-X Series was held on the 30th and 31st of August at Scoresby, Victoria and it was a weekend of survival for the riders, crews, spectators and officials.

With the drought recently breaking and an almost constant down pour of rain falling in the lead up to the event the normally fantastic surface turned into a quagmire that tested both rider and machine just to make it to the finish.

Saturday started wet and muddy with the track clearing up as the day progressed, but with heavy rains overnight, the track just went from bad to worse with even the pit areas turning into a boggy mess.

On Sunday several track changes were made in an attempt to alleviate the problem areas, but eventually the constant driving rain made the track unsafe and the racing was called off half way through the Sunday program.

Mud was the story of the weekend.
ATV National's
In the ATV National‰Ûªs it was the 4 time US champion Tim Farr who showed the locals what ATV racing was all about. Tim led every race on his Yamaha YFZ450 from start to finish and his silky smooth riding and raw speed gave every local ATV rider something to think about for the future.

The mud took its heaviest toll on the ATV‰Ûªs as they took the brunt of the huge roosts of mud from the quads in front of them. This mud caused several of the machines to overheat and DNF, but to their credit, most riders pushed on and put on some spirited racing.

Pro-Lites
The Pro-Lites class saw a bunch of new faces up front with Tasmainian Luke Van Maaenberg (City Bike Centre) making the trip over, freestyler John Flint and Daniel Kavanagh (Leongatha Motorcycles) all battling for front position.

Veteran Glen Macdonald (Alpha McDelta Yamaha) had a day he would like to forget with poor starts, crashes and misfortune hampering his day, however even with his poor results, Glen was still able to score enough points to take 2nd overall for the series.

Sale Honda's Adam Miller won the Pro Open class with ease as well as taking the series.
Pro-Open
A smaller than usual Pro-Open class saw Sale Honda‰Ûªs Adam Millar and Full Throttle Sports Honda‰Ûªs Troy Dorron come into the weekend separated by only 1 point for the series title. After some hard fought racing by both riders, it was Adam Millar who came out the series victor by only 6 points over Troy Dorron.

Sunday evening after racing, a gala dinner and presentation was held with a huge turn out. After all the trophies were handed out to the many classes, a spur-of-the-moment raffle was held for the recently injured Australian Jamie Brockman. In a space of only 30 minutes, over $1500 was raised to go towards Jamie‰Ûªs recovery fund.

Jamie‰Ûªs recovery progress can be followed on- www.jamiethejet.com where you can also make donations to help him with his recovery.
