Williams Event Managament (WEM), promoters of the Australian Motocross Championship, have announced Yamaha Australia as the naming sponsor to the 2007 Australian Womens Championship and Rising Star Rookies. The series will be bannered under the branding Yamaha MX National Development series. "This new race series is designed to provide a platform for women and junior riders to compete and to nurture upcoming motocross talent," Steven Cotterell, Director and General Manager of YMA. "The female and junior dirt bike customers are important to Yamaha and grass roots racing is a key area because the youngsters of today will become the stars of tomorrow. Yamaha Motor Australia is pleased to be in a position to help WEM organize a series that will provide a lot of riders with the opportunity to go racing. And with one round taking place in front of an Australian National MX crowd, Competitors will have a great opportunity to showcase their talent," Cotterell added. "Expressions of interest have exceeded our expectations, all class have around 50% so this tells us straight up that the series will be a huge success," said series director Kevin Williams. "We have build the model for the series around the very successful MX Nationals, the main point of difference for the riders in the series will be there are only a total of 12 races on the day." The series format will allow riders to experience the same style of racing that will face them on the national Pro stage. The series will be a total of 3 rounds and the Australian Womens Championship class and the Craig Dack Rookies 15 years Lites class will both be given the opportunity to strut their stuff in front of the industry heavy weight as they both will get to ride at a round of the Nokia MX Nationals, The Women will ride at round 6 Toowoomba and the Rookie Lite round 8 Wonthaggi.
