World Supercross (WSX) will return to Australia in 2025, with the series set to visit the Gold Coast for the first time as part of its fourth season.
The Cbus Super Stadium will host the event, joining previously announced rounds in London, Buenos Aires, and Cape Town.
Following last year’s double-header in Perth, the move to Queensland marks a shift to a new location for the Australian leg of the championship. The Gold Coast joins a growing list of world-class sporting destinations on the season four calendar, following the reveal of London, Buenos Aires and Cape Town as major new racing locations.
Queensland Minister for Sport and Racing, Tim Mander, said the event was a strong addition to the state’s sporting calendar and would provide opportunities for both tourism and community engagement.
“Sun, surf and supercross. This is the perfect event for the Gold Coast, for tourists and motorsport enthusiasts alike!” Mander enthused. “This is a global event with huge reach, another fantastic addition to the Queensland sporting calendar, and a great opportunity for kids to be inspired to get involved in sport and active recreation.
Last season’s visit to Australia saw Eli Tomac and Shane McElrath win both nights of racing in Perth on their way to claiming the 450cc and 250cc world titles respectively.
World Supercross CEO Tom Burwell said the decision to bring the series to the Gold Coast was driven by strong fan support and the opportunity to expand the reach of the championship.
“I absolutely loved being down on the West Coast last season!” Burwell said. “The fans were fantastic, and we know the passion of Australia’s supercross fans runs deep across the country. So that’s why we’re bringing World Supercross to the Gold Coast, offering a chance for even more local fans to experience the world’s best riders in action up close.
Cbus Super Stadium Manager Kristian Blundell added that the venue was prepared to host the event, having already staged similar large-scale motorsport events.
“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing the FIM World Supercross Championship to the Gold Coast for the first time, and we can’t wait to see the field transformed into a dirt track for the world’s best riders to test their speed and skill,” Blundell said.
“With Monster Jam and Nitro Circus already under our belt, Cbus Super Stadium is fast becoming the home of major motorsport events, further showcasing the versatility of the venue.”
The complete 2025 World Supercross Championship calendar is expected to be released later this month.
