Win a major motivator as Reed readies for Atlanta Supercross

Posted:

The elation and emotion of TwoTwo Motorsports' first AMA Supercross win are still fresh in the mind of Australian rider Chad Reed as he prepares for the season's eighth outing at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

The San Diego success was Reed's 39th win from 131 starts, and also marked his 106th podium finish in the premier class.

The maximum points haul puts Reed back into the championship picture, and he is determined to build on the momentum.

"Last week was a proud moment for the team," said Reed. "In the space of a few months we went from a bunch of people sharing a passion for the sport, to a team, to Supercross race winners.

"It was an emotional moment. It was my 39th win but it felt very different. It was a team win and a tribute to the guys that took the leap of faith with me."

Reed was pleased with his start and felt it would be the key this weekend.

"Getting the holeshot was important but pace in the early stages was what won it for me," he continued.

"I felt comfortable throughout the race and was able to gauge what the other guys were doing and respond.

"I still feel like I need to be faster and this week we've been working on a few things which I hope will see us continue the good form."

This weekend's event starts a seven-round tour of East Coast venues.

Finishes within the top seven placings at every round to date have Reed, a two-time champion, well-placed as Monster Energy AMA Supercross nears the season's half-way point.

He sits on equal third place with Trey Canard on 130 points. Class leader Ryan Villopoto is 16 points ahead.
