Travelling four hours from his home township of Atherton in North Queensland to Townsville was well worth the drive for Motorex KTM racer Todd Waters, who won both the Pro Open and Pro Lites class at round one of the Queensland Motocross Championship over the Easter weekend.
Commenting on his double class win in the seniors racing Waters said, ‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs only two weeks now until the opening round of the National Motocross Championship in Tasmania, so I‰Ûªm trying to get as many races under my belt as I can.
‰ÛÏWoodstock motocross circuit at Townsville hosted the Queensland Motocross Championship opener, which included two days of racing and the track was pretty rough by the end of it all. We had three 20 minute motos to race in each class, split over the two days, giving me a good opportunity to work on my fitness.
‰ÛÏI rode the KTM 250 SX-F in the Pro Lites and the 450 SX-F in the Pro Open, both bikes were only my practice bikes and they were still the most dominant on the track.
‰ÛÏIn the Pro Lites, I had good starts in each race, and had some fun battling with Adam Cini, Dean Ferris and Nicholas Geck who all kept me honest, but I managed to hold them off to take the win.
Husqvarna's Adam Cini followed Waters in both classes with second overall in both. ‰ÛÏTraining most days has paid off ‰ÛÏsaid Cini. ‰ÛÏ We have been trying all sorts of
settings in my suspension and finally today I felt so comfortable. What surprised
me was the Husqvarna TC250. We decided at the last minute to ride in the Pro
Lites class, and prior to this weekend I had not thrown my leg over this bike,
the bike was great and the Metzeler tyres really suited the track and this
package took me to 2nd position in round 1 of the championships. Overall a good result.‰Û
