Queenslander Todd Waters is hoping familiarity of his home state soil will give him the confidence he needs to get on the podium at the Australian Motocross Championship, as round three heads to Conondale this Sunday, May 4.
In preparation for Conondale, Waters entered round three of the Queensland Motocross Championships with Motorex KTM Racing at Kilcoy over the weekend, where he placed second in both the Pro Open and Pro Lites class for the round.
Waters comments, ‰ÛÏI raced as competitively as possible at Kilcoy over the weekend, and this week leading up to the Australian Motocross Championship, I‰Ûªm going to be following a strict training regime to ensure I‰Ûªm well prepared for Conondale, said Waters.
‰ÛÏI haven‰Ûªt had a podium in the Australian Motocross Championship as yet and I‰Ûªm determined to do it in my home state. I raced against some of my main competitors in the National Championship at the Queensland titles and I‰Ûªm up with their pace, so I know it‰Ûªs just a matter of finding the right technique on the day and making sure my head is in the right frame of mind.
‰ÛÏI rode two new 2008 model KTM 250 SX-F motorcycles in the Pro Lites class at Kilcoy to wear them in for the Australian Championship and I also rode my KTM 450 SX-F practice bike. I got second in both classes at the Queensland titles behind Dean Ferris and overall for the Queensland Championship I got third in both classes and that‰Ûªs with missing a round, so I‰Ûªm pretty happy with that result.
‰ÛÏOur young team rider Jesse Dobson also got a podium at the Queensland titles with third in the junior ranks, so all up KTM racing performed well at a state level, and it was a confidence booster for me which is what I need going into Conondale this weekend.‰Û
