WA’s Lightweight Motorcycle Club to run Fathers Day Vets meeting

Posted:

On this upcoming Father's Day the Lightweight Motorcycle Club (LWMCC) are hosting a free family event.

The Motorcycling Western Australia sanctioned event is purely a Veterans Only Motocross event and is bringing old and not so old past champions out of the woodwork. These riders were competitive in the past and as they have got older their friendly rivalry has only increased ensuring that this race meeting will be very exciting indeed.

Over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of Veteran riders ( 35 + in age ) at events. As there are also a lot of older vets in their 40s and 50s that have had to race with 35 tear olds there is a large age difference and fitness as there is only one class of vets at most events. Eg I am 53 in September and have to mix it with guys 18 years younger.

There are exceptions such as Tumblegum , Manjimup and also this year at King of the cross which had two vet age groups which is fantastic.

Both Tumble gum and Manjimup vet classes were full and there was a few grumbles among the older vets that missed out and they hinted that there should be a Vets only day as there has never been one before in WA.

LWMCC President Mick Jones said, "I and a few other older Vets that ride at our club have been toying with the idea of a Vets only event for a while so when I heard of the other Vets wanting a day of their own I put it to the Lightweight committee which supported the idea."

"The LWMCC has 2 classes for the vets 35 ‰ÛÒ 45 and 45 and over which are raced together but scored separately and has been a hit with our club..

"The LWMCC did this to show the vets appreciation of their time and efforts they have contributed to the sport over the years. Most clubs you will find that the vets are the ones that do most of the work around the track and volunteer for duties as they have more time.

"I put the Idea on Perth MX and had a very positive response so we are going ahead with the event.

"We decided to have a number of different age groups so as to cater for all ages and to limit the excuses."

Classes, 35 ‰ÛÒ 39, 40 ‰ÛÒ 44, 45 ‰ÛÒ 49, 50 ‰ÛÒ 100 and Pro vets

Entrants are also allowed for the vintage, pre 85 and the headlight classes to also attend so we would have a good variety of racing.

At this stage we have over 70 riders from 35 up to 65 years entered.

The club also have a few past state champions riding, Steve Moritz , Morgan Smith and trying to get a few more to enter .

This event will also give the Vets that ride in the state championships the chance to see who would have one the Byford round ( as there is not a vets class in the Byford round ) so bragging rights will be up for grabs. Mark Jones , Michel Drean , Kamal Godfree , Trevour Unstead.

As it is also father's day Admission to the event is free to all , so kids can treat their dad , grand dads to a day out and watch the action.

There is a Canteen and Bar available.

Racing will start around 9am and will be a whole lot of fun watching the action as the track will be fast and there are a few jumps that will give plenty of air time.

Don't let the age fool you as most of these guys don't act their age.

There is no prize money up for grabs just trophies and bragging rights at the bar later.

The atmosphere for the day is to give the vet riders from all clubs and even playing field where they can go out in their age group and have some fun and enjoy riding.
