WA Yamaha Junior Racing rider battle for podium results

Posted:

Wellard /CLAAS /Yamaha riders have maintained their championship aspirations after round two of the WA Junior Motocross championships were held at the Shrubland Park circuit in Bunbury, south of Perth.

Perfect conditions greeted riders at the circuit which is one of W.A.‰Ûªs toughest sand tracks capable of changing outcomes in the blink of an eye. As the day progresses it usually forms some of the deepest whoops and has a part of the track that is referred to as the ferrel section because it gets so rough.

YZF250 mounted Liam Whisler (Mandurah City Yamaha) came in under a slight injury cloud after tweaking his knee at practice the weekend before. The fourteen year old Serpentine charger knew he needed to ride well to keep in touch of the title.

With results of 4-2-2 over the three motos Liam was able to gather enough points to claim third for the round and narrowly miss second by just a solitary point.

‰ÛÏMy bike set up was great today but I just needed to get out of the gate a little better in race one." Whisler explained. "It was disappointing to have to fight my way through the pack but for some reason I just did not have the speed in race one.‰Û
Jared Connor (Five Star Yamaha) came in holding down third in the title hunt and was primed to keep hold of it. The 85cc Big Wheel rider had his work cut out for him dealing with the deep, sandy conditions and the host of local riders keen to steal championship points.

Over the three motos on the day, Connor managed 5-5-3 finishes for fourth overall and he maintained third in the championship.

‰ÛÏI had two bad starts in the first two races and that cost me." Connor stated. "I was able to get a better jump in the last race and finished up third.

"I guess, fourth is ok as this track is really hard to ride fast on and I‰Ûªm still third in the championship, which is pretty cool,‰Û
