Tuesday Track Talk – Week 14, Good News Bad News

Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Track Talk, on a day that has seen our World GP hope put out of action for the year and the announcement of some of the detail about the 2012 Australian Supercross season.

A little bad news come through via Facebook this morning, not earth shattering, but a post from Dean Ferris letting the world know he will miss the rest of the FIM World Motocross championship to have surgery on the shoulder he damaged at the French GP a couple of weeks back.

The news first broke on a social network which is pretty much the norm in this day and age with more details coming through just as I was putting this piece together.

The good news is it sounds like Ferris has a ride sorted for 2013 with much of the reasoning for the surgery being aimed at having him 100% heading into the 2013 season. It is good to know that we will more than likely have at least one Aussie to continue to cheer for at the World Championships next season.

Ferris and his ICE1Racing team released the following statement just minutes ago

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs a tough call to make, we met with the team in Portugal and it was unanimous that the best route would be to get it fixed now and then focus on coming into 2013 season strong and prepared." said Ferris It‰Ûªs a tough pill to swallow but I‰Ûªm still young and have many good years ahead."

"Motocross is such a demanding sport and especially as the MX1 class is so stacked with talented riders, you have to be 100% to even think about racing with those guys‰Û

Some more good news broke this afternoon, then was taken back a notch, however the good news is we have a four round Supercross with three venues confirmed and one to be advised.

As it stands there is currently two rounds in New South Wales, one in Queensland and it looks likely the remaining round will be held somewhere in Victoria. A good start for a series that IEG (International Entertainment Group) has not had long to organise.

The initial calendar had the second round being held at Phillip Island on the same weekend as the Moto GP, but was then changed, stay tuned for further updates on the likely hood of these two events being held in conjunction with each other or if another venue is used for round 2

It did not take long for people to start asking why it is called a national series if it only goes to two or three states, normally I would agree with those type of calls but I do think we have to give this new series a chance and be thankful that a company has put their hand up to run a championship, especially a series that has not been financially viable for the last two promoters.

Details of the exact venues, formats being used and classes being ran at the rounds are still to be released, we will do our best to find out what IEG has in place over the coming weeks, it will be interesting to see what Australian Supercross is going to look like in 2012 and moving forward.

It was a little quiet on the racing front over the weekend, Round five of the Lucas Oils Pro Motocross championship produced the result we were all expecting in the 450 class with James Stewart out, with Ryan Dungey going one - one, though Broc Tickle going two-two (results not to the team!) was a pleasant surprise.

The 250 class again proved to be where the action with Poor Ken Roczen again being pipped to the post in the dying laps of a moto, leaving him still chasing his maiden win in the US.

It was much the same at the World Championship with a KTM going 1-1 in the MX1 class and a KTM and a Kawasaki mixing it up in the MX2 class. While Antonio Carioli is not in clear control of the MX1 class just yet, it is certainly starting to head that way, while in the MX2 class it looks like the championship fight is going to be a cracker between Jeffery Herlings and Tommy Searle with the two riders continuing to split race and round wins.

On the national scene it was also quiet. In my home state of South Australia Shane Metcalfe won the Expert class at round three of the Peter Stevens South Australian MX Championships ahead of James Booth Elliot, while Luke Arbon took a narrow round win ahead of Daniel Banks in the Pro Lites class with Arbon's 1-2-2 being just enough to out do Banks 4-1-1 moto scores.

In Victoria Daniel Milner pulled back points on his championship rival Matt Phillips at rounds 9 and 10 of the Victorian Off Road Championships held at Barrabool.

This coming weekend is looking to be even quieter on the race front, with the Monster Energy MX Nationals still two weeks away from returning, the Lucas Oils Pro Motocross Championship heading into a two week break as well as the FIM World Championships also not being in action this coming weekend.

All eyes will be on Jason Crump and Chris Holder at the World Speedway GP Gorzow, Poland, with the WSPG being the only big off road race that comes to mind as I type this, Crump is right in the hunt again for this years title, while Holder will need to make up the points he lost at the last round to close in on the front runners.

The X-Fighters round in Turkey was cancelled due to high winds on the weekend robbing not only the fans the chance to see a great show, but also for some of the athletes putting in some final preparations for X-Games that gets under way in just over two weeks time.

There are plenty of Australian's looking for gold at X-Games this year, including, Blake Williams, Cam Sinclair, Mark Monea, jarryd mcneil and Jackson Strong who release the below video this morning, plus plenty of other athletes.

Will have more of a look at the Aussie at X over the next week and a half leading into the games.
