Saturday night (Nov-27) saw the New Zealand Motorcycle Trader and News Awards announced during a gala dinner at Auckland's
Sky City Convention Centre.
Following in the footsteps of 1996 World Champion Shayne King, New Zealand's second world motocross champion Ben Townley was named rider of the year. Townley, who was present at the awards was crowned world MX2 Champion at the final round of the season.
Australian Pro Lite Champion Cody Copper took out the award for Most Promising Newcomer (Dirt). Riding for the Team No Fear Honda Team in Australia, Cooper was unstopable in the opening rounds, setting himself up early for the championship win.
