Multiple time Women's MX Champion and eight times reigning Victorian Women's Motocross Champion Kristy Gillespie is part of a push by a leading group of Australian Female racers that are petitioning for the Women's Motocross Nationals to return to run along side the Monster Energy MX Nationals.

The petition that can be found by CLICKING HERE surfaced on Wednesday afternoon, just day's out from the scheduled 2013 Women's Motocross Championship that was due to be held in at Awaba in New South Wales on October the 27th.

The Women's national championship was a staple on the MX Nationals calendar up until the end of 2009 when the rights to the championship were handed over to the Rebel Media Group who ran the championship from 2010 up until 2012.

Unfortunately for Australia's top Female riders the 2013 with no promoter to run the event, the race despite the best efforts of the host club, Lake Macquarie Motorcycle Club, the event was cancelled on the 15th of October leaving both the riders who had committed to the event and Motorcycling Australia's sports co-ordinator disappointed that there would be no Official Women's championship this year.

‰ÛÏWe have some amazing women‰Ûªs MX talent in this country and this event is their showcase," Motorcycling Australia's Sport and Event Coordinator Matt Kearsley said in an article on the Motorcycling Australia web site that can be viewed by CLICKING HERE

‰ÛÏWe know the women who entered the event are disheartened and our thoughts go out to those who have made travel arrangements in anticipation of the event.‰Û

As a former national champion when the series formerly ran along side the MX Nationals, Gillespie knows first hand how being in front of both Australia's top teams and in front of the majority of the Off-Road media outlets who attend the MX Nationals helps to give Women's Motocross the coverage she feels it deserves.

"It's an awesome feeling, and it's incredible even just to race in front of the fans that come out to the MX Nationals, they are what make our sport go round." Gillespie continued. "The exposure back then was second to none, we were promoted right alongside the top guys of the sport, most of the manufactures had a female on factory support.

"WEM did a lot to build WMX right from the very beginning and we hope by building that relationship again we can get our championship back on track and get the future of women's mx looking bright."

Gillespie has personally made contact with both Motorcycling Australia and with WEM and is both confident and hopeful of a positive outcome for the future of Women's racing in Australia

"We have met with the events staff at M.A and also discussed it via phone with Kevin Williams. I must say the event staff at M.A were very supportive and positive about the whole thing!" Gillespie concluded.
