Tim Gajser is heading into the 2025 MXGP season in fine form after wrapping up the Internazionali d’Italia MX1 title, delivering a dominant performance across the two-round series.
The Slovenian showcased his speed, racecraft, and ability to adapt to tough conditions, taking three moto wins from four starts and securing the championship with 97 out of 100 points.
Gajser’s campaign began at a mud-soaked Mantova circuit, where heavy rain turned the track into a challenging battlefield. However, as he has proven in the past, when conditions deteriorate, his skillset shines. The 28-year-old made light work of the treacherous terrain, leading every lap of both races and comfortably securing a 1-1 overall victory. The Honda HRC rider got off to strong starts, quickly moving into the lead each time and establishing an unmatchable pace.
“It was a good day of racing, despite the weather,” Gajser reflected after the win. “It’s always important to get in some gate drops and get back into the rhythm of racing. The conditions weren’t easy, but I found a good flow and just settled in with a strong pace.”

The series then moved to Montevarchi for round two, where Gajser sealed the championship with another strong performance, going 2-1 on the day. The first race saw him get a good start but lose ground in a chaotic first turn. Despite dropping back, he quickly recovered and charged to the front within four laps. A minor mistake in the closing stages allowed Lucas Coenen to slip through, leaving Gajser to settle for second place.
Any frustration from that result was quickly erased in moto two, as Gajser delivered another dominant victory. After getting out front early, he set a relentless pace, pulling 30 seconds clear of the field by the checkered flag. That win secured him the overall for the day, as well as the MX1 championship title.
“It was a good day overall, and I’m glad we came here to race,” said Gajser. “In the first moto, I got a bit of arm pump, which isn’t totally unusual at the start of the year, but I wasn’t feeling great and that affected me towards the end. In the second race, we made some adjustments, and things were a lot better. This gives me confidence that everyone is still motivated to win after the off-season. I’m excited to head to Argentina and get the first MXGP round started!”
With three wins out of four motos and the MX1 crown secured, Gajser has sent a strong message to his rivals that he is back in title-contending form. The four-time MXGP Champion will now shift his focus to the opening round of the 2025 MXGP World Championship in Cordoba, Argentina, on March 1-2, where he will look to carry this momentum onto the world stage.
