It’s hard to always start an article on a positive note. Particularly when you were slightly let down by the previous round. Glendale is an event I usually look forward to for a few reasons.
The massive floor space. The drier desert dirt is familiar to all the racers so they all tend to be comfortable and racey. It has a roof so no talk about the weather. Along with long rhythm lanes that produce great racing and passing. I didn’t really see that this year. Not a lot of passing. The split lane rhythm didn’t really work. They also didn’t have much of a long lap time than usual despite the floor space. It was like they almost wasted the floor space with the track design. I guess in short not every round can be a barn burner.
On a positive note, Jett Lawernce broke the run of not winning Triple Crown events. So that’s no longer an issue. Eli Tomac did what Eli Tomac does in Triple Crowns. He Won. He now is the sole points leader and has 7 points on Cooper Webb. Is that the break he needs to take this championship out of Cooper’s grasp?
On the negative side and straight into my domain. We lost a few good men at this round. The whoops were claiming them. So did the rhythm lanes. Christian Craig despite his amazing whoop skills last year on the Yamaha has been not the same guy on the Husqvarna in the whoops and it claimed him this week. Very painful injuries for Christian with dislocations to his elbow and hip being two of the more painful injuries you can have and he had them both happen at once. Ouch!
Stilez Robertson was caught in a racing incident and will miss the remaining supercross rounds and potentially the early rounds of motocross.

We had a few Aussies over for this round. Unfortunately, things did not go well for Hayden Mellross. A crash in the rhythm lane has left him with a Right ankle injury. Unfortunately ending his 6 round stint in the 1st round. Matt Moss was there again on the BarX Suzuki. But again was unable to put together a good night show and looked to have a bit of a head bump that left his visor blinding him after his crash.
The whoops also claimed Jason Anderson this week. Jason has not been the same guy he was last year results-wise. Despite riding well he was slow to get up from his crash in Glendale but we believe he will be all fine for Atlanta.
Kaeden Amerine had a little run-in with another rider in the first corner that saw him face plant and cause some facial cuts that will be unpleasant for a week or so but should not keep him out of any races thankfully.
With the next round at Atlanta motor speedway. We go to a big track, outdoors and bring back the East Coast riders. Jo Shimoda will finally make his return to racing after his pre-season collarbone injury. I think this is the first indication of the SuperMotocross qualification aspect coming into effect for a rider returning to a series with only a few rounds remaining. Nice to see the combined series having a positive effect.
