The Emergency Department – 2022 AMA Supercross Round 6 – Who’s In And Out

Posted:

Brit Max Anstie has elected to continue racing through a shoulder injury.

Not sure what memo the riders got before the 2022 Supercross season kicked off from Feld and their teams. But man has there been some controversial “racing incidents” at every round of this year’s AMA Monster Energy Supercross.

After seeing all the replays of the Christian Craig, Vince Friese incident all week on social media. I don’t want to touch the topic with a ten-foot pole. But some comment has to be made. That comment from me. How lucky was Craig not to get injured flying off the track like that? I mean he flew out of the TV shoot so far you didn’t know where he was heading or what he was going to hit. Just when you start to relax because he is back to his feet and running to his bike. The Moto gods spoke and tripped him over with the extension cord from nowhere. Was that a sign that Hunter Lawrence was meant to win on Saturday night? We may never know.

Another busy round from the injury front at Glendale. Some riders coming in with mid-week issues this week also.

Max Anstie came in with a shoulder injury. Unlike most situations nowadays thanks to access to medical services and scans. Max has chosen to not get a scan to understand the injury. His comments to me this week, “I purposely didn’t go and get an MRI because I knew something probably wasn’t right in there but it’s not bad enough to need to miss races”.

Not something I’d recommend but for these pro-level guys, it can be mind over matter in a lot of cases. Here’s hoping that his decision to not know pays off and he doesn’t miss any action. If it goes the other way and he does need surgery down the track he may be regretting that decision. Hopefully, it works out for him.

Cheyenne Harmon, Carson Mumford and Chris Blose are going to be a few guys in the 250 class that are looking forward to getting through A3. With the few week break for the West Coast kicking in after A3 whilst the East Coast 250’s startup. All three guys are carrying injuries. Cheyenne has 3 broken toes on his left foot. Carson has some overall soreness from his over the bars excursion at Glendale. Chris has multiple broken ribs.

With the East coast just around the corner. Two guys that were preparing for that coast to start but will be absent are Bryton Carroll and Ryder Floyd.

It’s a good thing that the Coast change is only a week away. The West Coast guys are starting to drop and carry injuries that lead to a weak field. Hopefully, the East coast guys can have a better run with injuries and keep a strong field throughout their series.

With the last Californian round this weekend. Eli Tomac is about to complete his best-ever start to a Supercross season. Will he win again at A3 and make it three in a row? I can’t see why not.

See you next week Moto fans.
