Over in the United States the Lucas Oils Pro Motocross Championship fires back into life after a small break.
Ryan Dungey already owns the number one plate for the 450 class for the 2012 season and now all attention will move over to the 250 class with very the top four riders in the championship still in with a shot at this years championship.
Marvin Musquin despite his earning his first round win at the previous round at Unadilla is now out of the championship hunt, sitting exactly 100 points behind points leader
Blake Bagget with two rounds of racing left.
Bagget leads the way on 436 points, 24 points clear of
Justin Barcia and seemingly in control of the championship. But as we all know from the Australian Lites Championship nothing is certain until the chequered flag drops on the final moto of the year.
Sitting in third place is
Eli Tomac a mere four points further back on his Geico Honda team mate and just 28 points down on Bagget with four motos to go. The fourth and final rider in contention for this years title is German rider
Ken Roczen.
At 51 points down Roczen will need to make some big in roads this weekend, failing to score more points this weekend at Steel City would see Roczen mathematically unable to catch the Monster Energy kawasaki points leader Bagget and leave the three Americans to fight it out at the final round at Lake Elsinore the following weekend.
At this point in time the only Australian in action both internationally this weekend will be
Jackson Richardson. JDR/KTM rider Josh Cachia is also state side but will wait until next weekends final round before he sees some racing action.
Meanwhile back home, Australia's best rock hoppers will be in action over in Western Australia this weekend when the 2012 Smarter than Smoking Australian Moto Trials Championship takes place at Pinjarra on the 1st and 2nd of September.
