The Dirty Weekend Ahead – 18th and 19th of August

Its time to get down and dirty with another weekend of riding upon us.

After a few weeks with only a little racing going around the world, this weekend has it all if you are a fan of Motocross with a round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals being held in country New South Wales, a round of the Monster Energy FIM World Motocross Championships in the Motherland at Matterley basin motocross and to get it all underway the 10th round of the Lucas Oils AMA Pro Racing Championships in the United states coming from Unadilla.

The second to last round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals should be a interesting one and will set the tone for the final round of the series. By Sunday afternoon we will either have a better idea of who is the favourite for the MX1 title between Josh Coppins and Todd Waters, or things will be even tighter than the 12 points separating that currently separate the two riders.

The MX2 class really is between two riders in Luke Styke and Ford Dale, with Josh Cachia hanging in there as an outside hope. While Styke spent the early part of the year winning, it has be the latter two that have been running up front regularly over the past few rounds.

Dale and Cachia tied on points for the round at Appin and you would just about put money on the two of them being the front runners again this weekend at Moree as they put the hammer down in a last ditched effort to reel in the points needed.

Though Styke has not been on the podium the past couple of rounds he has been in the mix riding and riding steadily, he has only dropped a handful of points and continues to finish between 2nd and 5th in every moto, if he can keep that type of form up for the final six motos of the year he should hold on for his first Pro Lites championship.

Kayne Lamont and Dylan Long will battle out the MXD class in a fight of the strokes. It is an interesting battle that currently sees Lamont with a 29 point lead, this championship is a long way from over.

The other point of interest this weekend is, the full line up of the New Zealand MXoN team will be out on track at Moree, with Coppins, Cody Cooper and Lamont making up the Kiwi line up for 2012.

Over in England Clement Desalle will be trying his hardest to chase down Antonio Cairoli in the World MX1 Championship fight while in the MX2 class, Jeffery Herlings is getting close to having a championship winning lead over home race rider Tommy Searle.

Searle will be doing everything he can to win in front of his home crowd this weekend and keep himself in the championship hunt.

At least one Australian rider will be lining up over in the United states as the American series gets closer to the end. Michael Byrne will line up in the 450 class fresh off the back of his best moto of the season where he scored a 5th place finish in the second moto, while there is a good chance we may once again see Jackson Richardson race in the 250 class.

Richardson went somewhat under the radar at the last round, after failing to qualify through timed qualifying, the Queensland born rider made his way through to the two 30 minute races via the Last Chance Qualifier and went on to race to a 36th place finish in his first moto before just missing out on points in the second when he finished in 23rd.

While the Aussies are doing well, Ryan Dungey just needs to score more than 15 points than Mike Alessi on the weekend to wrap the championship which will be a first for KTM in the 450 class in the United States.
