Thursday the 20th of May to Wednesday the 26th of May 2004:

Darryll King and Cody Cooper continue Kiwi domination:

CDR Boost Yamaha's Darryll King has gone one better than his second overall at last weeks opening round of the Maxxis Australian Motocross Championships when he turned the tables on brother Shayne (Team No Fear Honda) by winning round 2 of the championship at Horsham in Western Victoria last Sunday (May 24), whilst the King brothers New Zealand compatriot Cody Cooper (Team No Fear Honda) took another two wins in the Pro Lite class to remain undefeated.

Pro Open:
The opening moto of the Pro Open Class was a King affair as DK (Darryll King) drew first blood when he took the holeshot and led the field from brother Shayne, Troy Carroll (CDR Boost Yamaha), Lee Ellis (Sale Honda, O'Neal Racing) and Team No Fear Honda's Shane Metcalfe.

The brothers King proceeded to wage war for the next 20 minutes as they swapped the lead and the odd bit of plastic as they entertained the 3000 fans that had braved the drizzly conditions.

By the chequered flag though it was the elder King in DK that took maximum points from Shayne whilst behind the sibling war Troy Carroll had maintained a steady pace and rode to a lonely third.

Shane Metcalfe wore down a dogged Lee Ellis who after the half way mark and settled into fourth, whilst Motorex KTM's Cheyne Boyd held out his team-mate Jay Marmont for fifth.

Moto two saw the emergence of another New Zealand talent when Full Throttle Sports, Sale Honda rider Corrie Sargent took the holeshot from the King brothers. Whist many in the crowd expected Sargent to succumb to the Kings he had other ideas and basically showed them the way around the track for the full thirty minutes.

It was amazing to watch someone who had been lapped in the previous moto come out and hand out a hiding to such a talented field - it also confirms what advantage a good start can make. Whilst Sargent was riding out front with ease, behind him the two Kings once again went to war. This time it would be Shayne who would get the upper hand and grab second whilst brother DK took third. Cheyne Boyd rode to his best moto finish when he took third ahead of the consistent Troy Carroll.

It was Sargents moto, but Darryl Kings day, Shayne King still leads the championship by 17 points but admitted that he just didn't gel with the bike. "My main goal was to beat DK, we battled pretty fiercely today, I just tried to make it hard for him". he said.

"It was fun today" Darryll King said. "I feel like I haven't done anything" he said, referring to his decision to drop out of the Pro Lites class and concentrate solely on the Pro open class. "Hopefully we can keep the ball rolling in two weeks time and make it a great championship". he concluded.

Pro Lites:
In the Pro Lites there is one name at the moment and that is Cody Cooper, The New Zealander is pretty much unstopable with the only chink in his armor being his starts.

As with last weeks come from behind wins Cooper again repeated the feat in both motos - in moto two coming from eleventh place to win with ease. "I just like the 30 minute motos" he said.

The day certainly belonged to Cooper but it was the old guard that was right behind him with No Fear Honda team-mate Troy Dorron once again taking second overall with a second and fourth.

Another Kiwi emerged in the form of Barry Morris - Who is actually a former Scott, when he tied CDR Boost Yamaha's Cameron Taylor with 38 points each, with Taylor getting the nod for the final overall podium spot on account of his better second moto result.

Taylor's CDR Boost Yamaha team-mate Daniel McCoy, Shift Motul Suzuki's Mitch Hoad and Whale Kawasaki's Daniel Reardon all had a respectable consistent day finishing 5th,6th and 7th respectively.

In 8th was Team Kawasaki's Adam Robinson who's first moto third place was soured by three crashes in the second moto and an eventual DNF. Red Bull KTM's Danny 'Digs' Anderson found form in the second moto when he pulled the holeshot of the day and lead the second moto well into the second half until eventually dropping back to fifth.

At the moment Cooper owns the Pro lites class and can come from just about anywhere in the field to win - the rest of the field certainly have a lot of work to do to catch the quietly spoken Kiwi.

Rookies:

In the first round of the Rookie class it was another sibling battle as the Brothers Moss battleing it out for first round honors aboard there Axo Yamaha's.

It would be Jake that would come out the victor by a mere point from Matt who's first moto effort was one of the rides of the day when he came from near last to third. Yamaha Junior Development team member Justin Carafa took out third with and a second moto win, a sixth in moto one leaving him 4 points away from an overall.
