Flinders Motorcycles Husaberg Team celebrated another Championship win on the weekend with team rider Ivan Long taking out the outright placing for the SA Off Road Championship whilst fellow team member Nick Throup has cleaned up the SA Road Trial Championship series.
The Mt. Crawford forest was host to the final round of the Championship and heading into the final Cross Country round in the Mt Crawford forest one point behind motocross champion Steve Pontin, Long got took advantage of the electric start and in true le mans style gained the lead heading into the mysteries of the dense forest.
Pontin having lost valuable moments kick starting his bike and last into the first corner, did not waste time chasing down most of the field and powered into 6th position. In full spectator view Pontin hit a forest stump crashing ahead of the remaining pack. Suffering severe front wheel damage and suspected dislocated shoulder, he retired just into the start of lap one!
Not until the last lap of hour three was the lead confirmed just as with the Bathurst ‰ÛÒ not a Holden but the Husaberg finished on Podium Gold!
Phil Watts of Flinders Motorcycles said "it's our first year with a team and it's been an awesome year for our riders who have proven that reliability is the key. Having two outright Champions in two disciplines is impressive and we are aiming for more next year!".
