Serco Yamaha's Cameron Taylor has won the opening round of the Victorian based Honda Moto Xtreme series - formerly known as the Honda ThumperX - at Chesterfield Farm in Melbourne's Eastern suburb of Scorsby on Easter Sunday, March 27th.

"Racing is the best form of training and I really enjoy this style of racing. It's great that I am only 15 minutes away from home and today will definitely help with my preparation for Horsham," Taylor commented of his win as he prepares for round 2 of the Maxxis Australian Motocross Championship. In the Pro Open class it looked on paper as though the battle would be between Team Motorex KTM's Lee Ellis and Taylor, but it was the Suzuki RM-Z450 pairing of Team Suzuki's Nick Barton and Brent Landman (Electric Suzuki) that threw an early spanner in the works. Moto one saw Landman grab the holeshot over his more fancied rivals only to relinquish it to the hard charging Barton. Ellis who has been having all sorts of drama getting of the line of late took until the closing stages to overcome Barton, whilst Taylor, who uncharacteristically also had a shocker of a start also accounted for Barton in the closing stages to secure second. Taylor would make no such mistake off the line in moto 2 and the current Australian Supercross Champion made no mistake cruising to a comfortable victory over a re-born former Australian champion in the shape of Honda SMART‰Ûªs Glen Bell. Landman continued his current good form with the ex Kawasaki Factory rider taking third and looking more and more comfortable after a forgettable last year, his result good enough for third outright. Moto 1 winner Lee Ellis pushed hard from a 20th place start to finish 7th, which put him in second overall for the day.

Taylor once again showed his brilliance in his regular class the Pro Lites when he took the pair of wins. In a 'been there done that' for the 31-year-old he was once again put in a position of chasing down a less heralded rider in the shape of Dean Taylor (Kawasaki Specialist Racing). Dean Taylor who has spent the last couple of years wandering the world racing in different countries was blistering fast, holding Cameron Taylor at bay for two thirds of the moto. "Dean is riding well - I was surprised with how fast he was going, I managed another poor start, which is something I need to work on. Coming from behind though helps me with my preparation as I was able to chase and make some smart passes", Taylor said. Moto 2 saw Taylor do it comfortably with Dean Taylor in the thick of it once again. New South Welshman, Mitch Hoad found his way into third by the chequered flag. In the Junior Lites Full Throttle Sports Honda Junior rider Kade Mosig took three wins from three starts although he was pushed all the way by Honda and Fly Racing supported Lewis Woods each time. Luke Harraway aboard his K&J Thomas YZ 250F finished third "My Honda is working great", Mosig said. "Yarrive (Konsky) has written up a new training program and I have been putting in a lot of time both on and off the bike. My preparation for the rookie series is on track and by Coolum I know I will be ready" Full results will be placed on the official website when the become available. Official Site.
