Round 13 of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship brought plenty of action from the opening lap to the final flag, with both title fights tightening up as the series charged into its final four rounds.
Chase Sexton rebounded in a big way to claw back crucial championship points in the 450SX class, while New Zealand’s Cole Davies made it two wins in a row with a composed ride in the East-West 250SX Showdown. The night had everything—high-speed crashes, last-lap charges, and red flag restarts—all in front of a packed crowd at Lincoln Financial Field.
Despite some rain early in the day, the track shaped up well for the night program, and with just four rounds to go in the championship, every point and every pass carried added weight. The 450SX and 250SX title fights both tightened up heading into the final stretch.
450SX
Chase Sexton made his intentions clear early, topping 450SX qualifying with a blistering 48.491 lap—less than two-tenths ahead of red plate holder Cooper Webb. Justin Cooper, Malcolm Stewart, and Joey Savatgy rounded out the top five, with just a second separating the top ten.
Heat race action was tight in both 450 classes. In Heat 1, it was Justin Barcia fired up early with his trademark aggression, holding off Malcolm Stewart to take the win. Barcia looked comfortable and fast, but there was chaos behind as several riders—including Adam Cianciarulo and Justin Hill—were forced to fight through traffic.

Heat 2 saw championship leader Webb come out swinging, grabbing the holeshot and never looking back. Chase Sexton had a slow start and was buried in the pack, but methodically worked his way into second, eventually closing to within a second of Webb by the finish. The ever-present Ken Roczen finished a solid third, showing good speed despite still nursing a separated shoulder and bruised ankle.
The main event brought immediate carnage as Aaron Plessinger and Shane McElrath came together in the first turn and went down hard. Sexton and Webb were caught behind the crash and forced to remount from outside the top ten. Up front, Barcia rocketed into the lead but moments later overcooked a berm and launched straight off the track, handing the position to Roczen.

Roczen held firm out front for over half the race, but Sexton and Webb were charging hard. The pair moved through the field almost in tandem until Sexton made a decisive move on Roczen with just over eight minutes to go. Webb followed shortly after but couldn’t make a dent in Sexton’s five-second advantage. The defending champ cruised home for his fourth win of the season, trimming Webb’s points lead to just 12.
“It’s time to make or break. I felt great all day, and that’s how you do it: one, one, one, one,” Sexton said. “I’m looking forward to the next race, but today was awesome. Good, dry track, not like last weekend, and I’m feeling good on the bike. It’s been fun and today was a good step in the right direction.”
Webb settled for second, still holding the red plate but clearly frustrated.
“It was a barn burner. We battled back the whole time. We both got [caught] up in that first turn crash. He got going in front of me, and we were coming through the pack together,” Webb reflected. “He was able to charge through, I was coming with and just hoping I could pass guys just as fast as he did. And I did until we got to Kenny. He got around Kenny and put in two or three sprint laps and kinda dictated the race. I had a bad line [in one corner] and it was killing me. I should have caught up on that first, should’ve started jumping that quad sooner; woulda-shoulda-coulda on a lot of things. But he rode great. We’ll come back next weekend and kick his ass, though.”
Roczen toughed out third with a gutsy ride, finishing 24 seconds back but still well clear of Stewart in fourth. Savatgy logged his best result of the year in fifth.
“When the race time comes, I always seem to buckle up and do what I do,” Roczen said. “Obviously, I’m not riding the best in general just because I haven’t ridden during the week, really since after Indy. It’s been really tough; I’m pretty banged up with the shoulder and the ankle. I know its monotonous to talk about but that’s really what’s holding me back. Especially this track, because we had five right-hand turns to two left-hand turns, and it’s my right ankle. So, I’m losing a lot of time in the turn just trying not to put my foot down, because it’s not very fun. So I haven’t been in the best spot lately but I’m really trying to keep my head in there. I have a great support team behind me that kinda keeps me out here, because sometimes I do want to quit. But we always come back.”

250SX Shootout
Qualifying saw a West Coast sweep at the top as Julien Beaumer set the benchmark in combined times with a 49.205. Garrett Marchbanks was second at 49.865, with Cole Davies close behind at 50.193. Haiden Deegan was fourth despite a crash late in the final session, and Seth Hammaker was the fastest East rider in fifth, just edging out Tom Vialle.
In the 250SX West heat, it was Davies who grabbed the early lead ahead of Beaumer and Deegan. Deegan was flying—he passed Beaumer, then tracked down Davies and made a slick move to the inside across the start straight to take over the lead. Deegan claimed the win, with Davies second, Beaumer third, Marchbanks fourth, and Jo Shimoda rounding out the top five. Michael Mosiman, Gavin Towers, and Avery Long all hit the deck in separate incidents and were sent to the LCQ.
In the East heat, Hammaker nailed the holeshot ahead of Vialle, RJ Hampshire, and Chance Hymas. But Vialle’s night turned ugly when he got cross-rutted and landed on a Tuff Block alongside the track, slamming hard into the ground. He remounted but went the wrong way alongside the track and retired from the race. Hammaker capitalised and cruised to victory in front of his home crowd, followed by Hampshire and Hymas. Vialle bounced back to take second behind Towers in the LCQ and secure a spot in the main.
The 250SX Showdown main event saw Hammaker take the lead on the original start, but a crash in the whoops brought out the red flag and triggered a complete restart. On the second go, Hampshire jumped into the lead ahead of Hammaker and Deegan, with Davies running fourth.

Davies didn’t wait long. The young Kiwi methodically picked off the leaders one by one, using better lines in the rutted corners to move past Hammaker, Hampshire, and finally Deegan to take the lead. Deegan mounted a strong late charge and closed to within 1.5 seconds in the final minutes, but couldn’t break Davies’ rhythm. The 17-year-old took his second win in a row and his first in a combined East-West Showdown.
“I literally grew up watching all the guys that I’m racing right now. It’s a big stage out here, a lot of people watching, but I just focus on myself. Two in a row, I’m stoked, Davies enthused.” “It’s been a long journey to get where I am. To Will – you get to keep your hair, mate. That’s two. So he gets to keep his hair, doesn’t get shaved, so he’s safe. I’m stoked, big thanks to the whole Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team and my mechanic Lach [Lachlan Mills]. We’ve been putting in the work… The whole group around me is just very, very good and striving to be the best they can. So I’m just stoked for everyone around me.”

“It took me a little bit to find my flow, and right in that middle portion of the race is where I really found my flow. It was like the best I’ve felt in a long time,” Deegan reflected. “I really just locked in perfect laps and didn’t make any mistakes after I got around Hammaker and Hampshire. I was flowing, slowly reeling in Cole. He ended up getting the Dub [win], I got second. That just felt good… That first part of that race I was a little too slow. I think I didn’t sprint hard enough, and I’ve just got to work on stuff like that. I don’t know whether it’s in my mind, like ‘championship mode,’ where I just try to be smart and not go down during those first few laps that’s hindering me. I mean, it’s working [for the points lead], so I don’t want to change it too much. Yeah, I definitely need to pick it up those first few laps.”
Hampshire crossed the line in third and now shares the 250SX East red plate with Hammaker, who finished fourth. Shimoda made a late move on Vialle for fifth, while the Frenchman settled for sixth and now sits third in the East standings, just two points back.
“I feel like I couldn’t get out of my own way in the Main Event, honestly,” reflected Hampshire. “I had to focus a lot on hitting my marks. Both Haiden [Deegan] and Cole [Davies] got me, and I was pretty content still because I knew the guys I needed to beat. This was literally the toughest Main Event I’ve had to do, both mentally and physically. I had to stay in check and it worked out, so we’re excited for the next few rounds now.”
Davies jumps to second in the West standings, 17 points behind Deegan, with momentum clearly on his side as the series heads toward its final two rounds.
