Steve Plater on road to recovery

Posted:

Steve Plater
HM Plant Honda rider Steve Plater has undergone a successful operation to plate the front of his broken vertebrae. The operation took place last Wednesday and the doctors were so pleased with his progress that he was able to go home to Woodhall Spa near Lincoln on Friday.

The injury was the result of a high speed crash during practice for the North West 200 in Northern Ireland in the middle of May. Initially it was thought that Steve had come away from the accident with only a broken arm but once back home, he underwent an MRI scan after experiencing pain in his neck and shoulder, which highlighted the broken vertebrae in his neck.

Plater commented, ‰ÛÏI am really pleased to have been able to come home this weekend, have some normality after the last few weeks and also spend some time with Vicky and the kids, as this year has just flown by so far. It also is nice to be able to get out in the fresh air as I have been cooped up in hospital for over a week.

‰ÛÏEverything went very well on Wednesday and to be able to come home is great. I went to physio last night and yesterday and today is the best I‰Ûªve felt since the crash so I‰Ûªm feeling more confident with how everything is progressing. I have ninety degree movement left and right in my neck which the doctors are amazed about. I have to go back for another operation on Thursday to have the back of my neck plated, but hopefully my recovery from that will be as good as this first operation.

‰ÛÏMy arm is coming on too and I‰Ûªm getting more feeling back day by day, so hopefully with a few more weeks to recover I should be feeling brand new again.‰Û
