In preparation for round seven of the Australian Motocross Championship at Lake Macquarie Motocross Track (Lakes NSW) Motorex KTM Under 19s racer, Tye Simmonds has used every chance he has had to gain maximum bike and training time.
Two weeks back Simmonds competed in the final round of the Under 19s Junior Development Series, which was at Lakes to familiarise himself with the track, and after some tight racing he came home with the win. Simmonds then entered round one of the NSW Motocross Championship at Clarence NSW in both the Pro Lites and Pro Open, taking second in both classes to Matt Moss, who claimed the win.
Simmonds said, ‰ÛÏI have a three point lead in the National Under 19s Championship, which is a narrow margin, so I knew I had to keep up my race training in between rounds.
‰ÛÏI entered the Under 19s Junior Development Series because it was at Lakes and I wanted to familiarise myself with the track. There was no Pro Lites or Pro Open racing at this event, so my Motorex KTM team mates Michael Addison, Todd Waters and Ryan Marmont, didn‰Ûªt join me.
‰ÛÏI enjoyed racing at Lakes and saw that I needed to work on my corner speed, I had a tough battle holding off Lawson Bopping, who really kept me on the gas.
‰ÛÏThen at round one of the NSW Motocross Championship held at Clarence over the weekend, I entered both the Pro Open and Pro Lites class, finishing second in both classes to Matt Moss.
‰ÛÏLawson Bopping also entered the Pro Lites class and he is one of my toughest competitors in the Under 19s National Championship, so it was good to get out there and battle with him again.
‰ÛÏI feel confident of victory in the Under 19s National Championship at Lakes, especially with all the preparation I have put in leading up to the event. I‰Ûªm really looking to increase my lead in the Championship points, which will take a bit of the pressure off going into each round.
Simmonds‰Ûª Motorex KTM team mates Todd Waters and Michael Addison also entered round one of the NSW Motocross Championship at Clarence, but a combination of illness and injury kept them off their usual pace, and Ryan Marmont didn‰Ûªt enter at all, because he had the flu. All team riders are expected to have a full bill of health for round seven of the Australian Motocross Championship at Lakes this weekend.
Leading up to the event, Motorex KTM racers will be at Cessnock Motorcycles 176 Vincent Street, Cessnock, on Friday 4 July from 3:00pm to meet fans and sign autographs. The factory transporter will also be on location for public access.
Round seven of the National Motocross Championship takes place this Sunday. Access: Cessnock Road, Ryhope off the Sydney Newcastle Freeway.
