Shepparton is set to roar with the noise of Motocross bikes this weekend when it plays host to the first round of the 2010 Peter Stevens Motorcycles Victorian Motocross Championships.
With over 330 entries received, the event is primed to get the 2010 series off to the best possible start.
Two-time defending champion, and Australian Motocross legend
Cameron Taylor, will be looking to get off to a flyer in his quest to win his third consecutive Championship.
He won‰Ûªt have it all his own way though, with fellow great
Brent Landman eyeing off first place as well as young stars
Lewis Woods,
Chase Mosig and
Adam Monea.
Flying the flag for the locals is young hot shot
Matt Ryan on the Husqvarna, who will compete in both the Open and Lites classes.
Ryan comes in off the back of a solid start to his season in the Pro Lites class at the MX Nationals, currently sitting in 12th after four rounds.
His fellow competitor at national level,
Kade Mosig, will again be one of his main challengers in the Lites class, as will
Lewis Stewart on the KTM.
In the Women‰Ûªs class,
Kristy Gillespie will be hard to beat as she looks for her fifth consecutive State Championship.
A member of the GMR Motorex KTM team, Gillespie, from Wodonga has been unstoppable over the last four years, losing only a handful of races, and she will look to continue that run this weekend.
The Goulburn Valley Junior Motorcycle Club have been working for the last three months to get the track prepared and will be working right up until this weekend in order to present the track in the best possible condition.
The track is relatively new to the Motocross scene in Victoria, having only opened in early 2009 after the club moved from their old track in Waaia.
Action gets underway Saturday from 10am and continues right across the weekend. For more information please visit
