Two thirds of the Yamaha third round were raced in the North Waikato town of Huntly today. After two rounds in each class
the normally terrestrial sport was in danger of becoming a water sport. Ironically two hours earlier the organisers
had considered watering the track because of dust.
This means that there have been eight races in each class. At the finale in Pukekohe on November 23rd there will be a
further three races in each class - a maximum of 75 points is available.
Cody Cooper (Opotiki) stretched his unbeaten run to five races in the 125's, he has not been beaten since the
second race of the first round held in the South Island in July. Cooper is sitting on a 10-point lead from Darryll
King going in to the final meeting.
In the 250cc class Shayne King got a first and a second in the wet and dry conditions today. Mark Penny
(Te Awamutu) blemished King's record when he became the first rider to beat him in the series. Shayne King
(New Plymouth) flies to Europe this week, to take part in the world team championship, knowing that he has a
lead of 42 points over Penny with Nigel Smith (Auckland) in third. Peter Broxholme of Tauranga drops out of the
running after not competing at all today.
The premier 500cc class is literally case of "We Three Kings." Everything went according to seeding today with
Shayne recording two wins, Darryll two seconds and Damien two thirds. The stalemate has been broken for the
first time in the series now that Shayne has opened a small points lead over Darryll.
The final round will be in Pukekohe on the 23rd of November.
