A spectacular crash at the third round of the German Motocross Championships in Aichwald at the weekend has sidelined Queenstown‰Ûªs Scotty Columb.
The Kiwi hero had his Suzuki in fifth spot during qualifying and was looking strong as he chased his team-mate, Kornel Nemeth, just two seconds ahead of him.
‰ÛÏI wanted to better him or get closer. I thought I could as the course was fast and not that technical. On a hot lap, I railed the first few corners, coming into a ski jump I got kicked by a braking jump, going off this particular ski jump I was nose down with full panic revs. I held on tight thinking I was going to save it but went down hard, breaking my helmet peak, twisting my bars and a few other things.
‰ÛÏHopping on my bike, my shoulder was hurting, it felt as if it had popped out of the socket but I didn't feel like throwing up a classic feeling after a dislocation, but it was still really sore. I went straight back to the truck.
‰ÛÏOn Sunday, I did three laps warm-up but had no strength, so I pulled in. Race one I had taken some pain killers to try and help but again on the sitting lap I didn't feel safe to ride. I started the race but pulled soon after as I didn't feel it was safe to continue racing riding with no strength in my injured shoulder.‰Û
