Matt Schubring is widely acknowledged as a pioneer of Australian Freestyle Motocross.
His personal riding achievements cement him as one of the country‰Ûªs most successful FMX athletes to date however his influence on the development of the sport stretches far beyond his own success on the bike.
Over the past 10 years Schuie has provided an unrivalled riding environment and level of hospitality to the Australian FMX family that has helped developed the sport to where it is today in Australia.
After over a decade in the spotlight, Schuie has signalled the end of his professional riding career, and Unit would like to congratulate him on his amazing years.
Some of Schuies major achievements include:
- 2004 Australian FMX champ
- 3 x Freerider MX Magazine rider of the year
- First Aussie rider and longest serving rider on the Crusty Demons Live Tour
- 2008 Crusty Demons Live Tour ‰Û÷Best Rider‰Ûª and ‰Û÷Best Trick‰Ûª awards
While his riding definitely influenced development of FMX in Australia it was more so the facilities, enthusiasm and hospitality that Schuie showed the whole industry at what has become known as Schuieville.
Matt‰Ûªs personal properties were turned into FMX theme parks and have been the scene of some of Australia‰Ûªs most groundbreaking riding over the past 10 years.
Perhaps the most influential milestone at Schuieville was the construction of Australia‰Ûªs first foam pit which opened the Australian FMX scene up to a world of new possibilities and progression. After the foam pit came the infamous 10 pack, a series of dirt jumps inspired by BMX, but applied to a massive scale for FMX.
Unit Clothing founder and Creative Director Paul Everest remembers the passion and enthusiasm of Matt over the years,
‰ÛÏHe is a pioneer and a soldier of the sport, Schuie has innovated and put back into the industry for his entire career." said Everest, "He played a major role in helping Unit get to where it is today and we are proud to say he will always be part of the Unit Family.‰Û
