The Honda HRA rider, who will turn 16 next week, already has a string of state titles to his name, but taking out his first national championship is something he has been working toward for the last nine years. ‰ÛÏGoing into this final round, I knew that if I kept cool I could win the series,‰Û

Due to injury, Simmonds only competed in two of the four rounds winning both the Rosedale (VIC) round, and Dapto (NSW) round, to claim a 3rd overall. Commenting on the main event Simmonds said, ‰ÛÏI was not happy that I came down in the mud in the site race, I was full of mud for the main event which annoyed me but also made me more determined to win. ‰ÛÏThe mud was like the sandy tracks in Florida (USA), where I raced for a few months last year. Sand is really hard to ride on and if you don‰Ûªt hold on the gas you will fall off. ‰ÛÏYour mind tells you to slow down so you don‰Ûªt fall in conditions like this but I knew from Florida that if you hold it on you get to control the surface to your advantage, instead of the surface controlling you. ‰ÛÏI didn‰Ûªt get the best of starts in the main event but I quickly caught up with the race leaders and then made a big enough gap in the lead so nobody could catch me. In May, Simmonds will travel back to America to compete in the Loretta Lynns Motocross Championship, before returning to Australia in September for the Australian Junior Motocross Championship.
