Rider input sought Powelltown Trail Bike Visitor Areas

Posted:

Rider input sought into draft concept plan for the proposed Trail Bike Visitor Areas near Powelltown As part of the Department of Sustainability & Environment (DSE) Trail Bike Project, DSE is seeking rider input into the design of the first Trail Bike Visitor Areas (to be located in Gippsland, near Powelltown). Thompson Berrill Landscape Design was engaged in April to design two Trail Bike Visitor Areas. The purpose of these areas is to provide a well designed unloading area in State forest where riders can safely unload their bikes and where facilities and information are provided to aid their use of the forest road network. At initial draft concept plan has now been produced which shows the layout of:
  • the carpark (with capacity to handle cars with trailers as well as utes); and
  • the proposed visitor facilities (toilets, undercover shelter, unloading ramp etc). The first draft of some new look signs to support and direct trail bike riders has also been completed. This includes:
  • Unloading area markers/symbols that can be used to clearly direct vehicles with trailers off sealed roads and via forest roads to the unloading area
  • Trail route markers that can be used to promote several trail bike riding circuits which would start and end at the Trail Bike Visitor Area.
  • Resident/recreation zone markers that would be used to advise riders that they are about to enter areas close to houses or passive recreation user sites.
Before we lock in and approve the concept design and proceed to the next step of producing detailed specifications and drawings (which will then be tendered out for construction), DSE want to make sure that trail bike riders like what is proposed. So if you want to make sure this facility gives riders the facility they need, come along to view the concept plan, meet the designers and have your say. When: 1pm Saturday 2nd June
