Road Racing returned to Barbagallo Raceway in earnest last weekend with the first round of the RidedaysWA State Road Racing Championships, which will be conducted over five rounds between now and the October.

With large fields in all classes the MCRC moved the start of proceedings forward by half an hour to accommodate all of the practice and qualifying. It proved to be a good move with Aaiden Coote aboard his SP Racing Honda 600, suffering a high-side on the first lap as he entered the ‰Û÷Esses‰Ûª with the bike destroying itself against the wall, luckily he suffered only a sore shoulder, but there was considerable delay whilst the wreckage was cleared away. The remainder of the morning session was relatively incident free. The weather which had looked to say the least ‰Û÷threatening‰Ûª cleared to an almost perfect day by the time racing began.

The Steel Blue Supersport/Superstock Mitchell Carr showed just what a talented rider he is coming to Barbagallo Raceway and taking three faultless wins to dominate the Supersport Championship.

Mason Coote showed he was the best of the local rider with three second places with Diarmuid Buckley and Nigel Lloyd sharing the minor podium place with Buckley taking two thirds on the day.

In the Superstock division Danny Pottage lead from Leigh Boujos with Doug Sant filling third spot with ten points covering the three of them.

In the Fastline 125GP Championship/F2/250 Production Ben Millington had the perfect start to the season with three wins for maximum points. Second in the class was Mark Laing-Hughes with Dave Doughty sitting in third place.

Troy Johnson leads the charge in the 250cc/F2 division with Iain Scott and Graeme Edmands, filling the minor placings. With Tom Hatton skipping this round things could well change when he and Sam Clarke, who is recovering from a broken leg return to the fray later in the season.

The Armadale Rental Cars Sidecar Championship saw 2011 Champion Des Harvey/Gary Cushnahan take the round win but not before the father and son team from Collie, Steve and Dylan McDermott took the first race and pushed them all the way in the other two races. Father and daughter, Rod and Alix Walker took three strong third places. Harvey/Cushnahan have 70 points with the McDermott‰Ûªs just 5 points behind and the Walkers sitting on 54 points.

In the Industrial People Clubman 600, speedway star Leigh Boujos having his first road race won both races from Tim Simmons who scored a pair of second place with Craig Tresidder taking both minor podium places.

The Industrial People 1000 threw up a few surprises Kurt Macomber taking the win from Matt Battista and Kenneth Wan. This was a great race if for no other reason that Battista, who is a paraplegic and starts from pit lane managed to take the runner-up spot. In the second race Wan took his maiden win from Clayton Cowling with first brace winner Macomber third.

The Club Handicap was taken out by veteran Rob Hull from Stewart Ward and Anthony Wright third.

Round two will be held on Sunday 29th July 2012.
