A record Queensland Supermotard crowd of over 1,200 witnessed 107 riders overcome 37 degree temperatures to provide the
closest and most spectacular Supermotard racing ever seen in Australia. The Toowoomba & Lockyer Valley Karting Circuit
played host to Round 1 of Jackson Equipment Barellan Homes Supermotard Extreme 2004 over the weekend (Jan-25).
Whilst the crowd was enthralled by all classes of racing, it was the much hyped 450cc class that many come to see -
Mark Willis, Mark Avard & Stuart Bennett on equal machines in the same class for the first time.
If you were hoping this race would answer the question as to whom was the man to watch this year, it didn't - it was just too close.
The three riders banged bars and swapped the lead throughout the day and entering the final 450cc race of the day where all on equal
points.
This race started in typical style, the top three synchronized sliding into corners, with a blanket covering them.
Willis was leading entering the back straight at half race distance, when the crowd suddenly fell silent.
