Current S1 Australian Champion Stuart Bennet leads arch rival Mark Avard and Australian S2 Champion Mark Wills.
A record Queensland Supermotard crowd of over 1,200 witnessed 107 riders overcome 37 degree temperatures to provide the closest and most spectacular Supermotard racing ever seen in Australia. The Toowoomba & Lockyer Valley Karting Circuit played host to Round 1 of Jackson Equipment Barellan Homes Supermotard Extreme 2004 over the weekend (Jan-25).

Whilst the crowd was enthralled by all classes of racing, it was the much hyped 450cc class that many come to see - Mark Willis, Mark Avard & Stuart Bennett on equal machines in the same class for the first time.

If you were hoping this race would answer the question as to whom was the man to watch this year, it didn't - it was just too close. The three riders banged bars and swapped the lead throughout the day and entering the final 450cc race of the day where all on equal points.

This race started in typical style, the top three synchronized sliding into corners, with a blanket covering them. Willis was leading entering the back straight at half race distance, when the crowd suddenly fell silent.

Noyce Honda's Mark Willis enjoy's the star lifestyle before a crash saw him finish the day with a broken shoulder
Exiting the corner Willis produced his trademark power slide, however this time going too far with the rear wheel hitting the damp curbing. The resulting high side saw Willis land head first onto the track and sliding face down for many meters without moving. Willis remained unconscious for a minute or two until the ambulance arrived. The result being a broken should blade for the current Australian S2 Champion.

The restart saw the remaining combatants Avard and Bennett continue where they had left off, sliding and jumping side by side. However the slightest of mistakes by Avard saw him crash after clipping the rear of Bennett's bike on the tight dirt section, leaving Bennett, the current Australian S1 Champion, a clear run to victory.

The All Powers class was just as spectacular the addition of Graham Cheney onboard the FS650 Husaberg instead of his usual ride - a Honda CRF450. Cheney mixed it with top three throughout the day, however a crash in the final brought a halt to his charge.

Other highlights of the day including the aggressive battle between Kawasaki's Robbie Baird and Yamaha's Brendan Clarke in the Clubman class, with Clarke ending the day victorious.
