The opening round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships in Dubbo saw Geran Stapleton emerge as the leading privateer rider and a solid overall front runner in the ultra competitive Lites category.
After qualifying well earlier in the evening, the BCP Fox Honda supported rider rocketed out of the gate in the 15 lap final with over a bike length lead less than ten metres out of the gate.
Stapleton held that advantage into the first turn and scored a solid holeshot in the first main event of the year and in doing so secured a Unit Watch for his efforts.
The young rider from Rosebud in Victoria looked comfortable and fast in the lead while holding off seasoned campaigner and eventual race winner, Carlton Dry Thor Honda rider, Gavin Faith as well as Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Kade Mosig for a good distance into the race.
Stapleton settled into a terrific pace that saw him battle hard with Serco Yamaha rider Luke Styke and Motul Pirelli Suzuki rider Steven Clarke before finishing in a credible 6th position and first privateer home.
