Western Australia's Lightweight Motorcycle Club hosted the finale to the 2010 Smarter than Smoking WA State Motocross Championships, on Sunday 19th September with Dean Porter, Josh Adams and Luke Gaisford all being crowned 2010 champions.
Perfect conditions all week meant a few stoppages for watering, but the track was amazing all day and produced some of the tightest racing and finishes to all series.
2009 Pro Lites Champ Shane Murray repeated his round five effort by entering both Pro Open and Pro Lites classes at his home track. In the Lites Murray took the holeshots and won both race one and two but came unstuck in race three, the local rider still enough to take out the days proceedings for the Lites class.
Daniel Shrimp needed a win in the last race of the series to secure himself a final series podium, and set about doing just that, the youngster taking only his second race win for the year, but making it count when needed.
Tim Bell made his first appearance since round one after a nasty injury kept him on the sidelines, a pair of second places in race one and two was a good result and in the lead up to some major Open events in the next few weeks Bell will be one to keep an eye on.
Josh Adams had enough points to take the series title after race two, race three being a formality. A huge cartwheel through the first corner in race three may as well bee for entertainment with the title already decided in his favor as he circulated at the back of the pack for his final race of the series.
The Pro Open class would have to be the tightest class all year, 18 races over 6 rounds, and the top 2 riders taking all 18 wins, and 13 of the available 18 second places.
The top two, Dean Porter and Louis Calvin, have been dueling competitors since juniors with both currently at the top of their game. Calvin needed to take all three wins to give himself the best shot at the title, while Porter going into the final round with a 20 point buffer needed to maintain solid finishes to secure the title himself. Throw Shane Murray and Jamie Shaw in the mix to split the pair with a second place apiece, and Porters lead rapidly dwindled.
Porter did enough to get him through in the end, celebrating his win with a huge wheel-stand across the chequers to the applause of his many fans. Chris Errey kept his margin tight beating Murray for the 3rd podium position by 16 points.
The Quad Championship saw Ryan Lancaster holding a 2 point buffer for the series at the start the day, a first corner tangle in race 1 saw that lead diminish, Luke Gaisford took that win followed by retiring Pro, Glen Ashworth and Mitchel Clarke.
Race two it seemed wasn't Josh Higson's day. After a brilliant start and leading the race his seat dislodged, Lancaster and Gaisford came together whilst fighting for the lead after Higson fell back but the two title contenders managed to take first and second ahead of Higson.
Gaisford needed fourth or better to win the title in the final race for the quads. Lancaster did all he could by taking the win but Gaisford crossed the line in third and as a result wrapped up the 2010 Title. 16 year old Jordan Dummett had his best round of the series, a hatrick of 4th places saw him take 3rd place for the day and 5th overall for the series.
The 2010 Series is over for another season, a huge thank you to all the sponsors, advertisers, clubs committees, Sports committees and all involved in making the series another huge success.
