Pink Dirt Empowers Female Riders

Posted:

Dirt flying, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping...mascara running?

Dirt bike riding, long a favorite of extreme sports minded men, has found a relatively new home in the hearts of female riders. One online clothing retailer aims to empower those women to enter the sport, whether their bliss is thrashing around in the bush, or competing on a state or national level.

From coast to coast, dirt bike riding continues to gain popularity. The sport is seeing more and more women drawn into this traditionally male venue. Enter Pink Dirt, providing clothing and gear for female dirt bike enthusiasts. Pink Dirt was born from combining the owner's passion for dirt bike riding with her desire to help prevent child sexual abuse.

"Dirt biking has not been overly friendly to women in the past," says King. "Almost 100% of the merchandising, marketing and technical resources are geared at the male market. Women riders have struggled to find like-minded riders and gear aimed at their particular needs.

"Women deserve to have a line of riding gear and apparel that works for them, that fits their curves and gives them the same mobility and protection as the boys," says King. "Plus, we get to look good doing it," she laughs.

Looking good is only part of what this clothing line does for girls and women. They also plan to sponsor riders in various events, and work hard to help promote the attitude that women are welcome, successful, and empowered both on their dirt bikes and in every area of their lives. Pink Dirt is also launching a new content site that will provide resources and information for girl riders, and girls who are interested in taking up the sport.

Pink Dirt is in the process of creating its own charity, which will promote awareness of the issue of child sexual abuse through TV campaigns and print media. In the meantime, the company contributes a portion of its sales to an existing charity.

"We donate 5% of every sale to Bravehearts, Inc (https://www.bravehearts.org.au). Their bottom line is to stop sexual abuse of children," explains King. "They aim to make Australia the safest place in the world to raise a child, and we aim to make Australia a free, empowering place for all women. It's a perfect combination.

Pink Dirt carries riding gear, dresses, jackets, shorts and street clothes for free spirited girls and women.
