Picard to benifit from guidence of past champion Daryl Hurley

Posted:

Former multi-time Australian and New Zealand Motocross champion Darryl Hurley, will fly in from New Zealand to assist the Zero Seven Motorsport team at this weekend's MX National round in Wonthaggi, Victoria.

Hurley has been working extensively in the past week with young 16 year old kiwi Dion Picard in his MXD class campaign and will also be on hand to offer the team's MX2 class championship contender Adam Monea a helping hand.

"I've had a great relationship with Powelly (Steve Powell) from SPMX for many years" Said Hurley "he was my race mechanic at Suzuki for a few seasons and we've always remained good friends."

"When he asked if I'd be interested in helping the team and their riders I jumped at the chance." he continued.
Dion Picard will have the guidence and support of fellow Kiwi Daryl Hurley this weekend.
A multi time New Zealand motocross champion, Australian Thumper Nationals Champion and the 2005 Australian (Pro Open) Motocross Champion, Hurley also achieved strong results competing full time in the USA in 2003 and 2004.

The likable North Islander, famously won a round of the 2004 World Supercross Championship, for the Motoworld Suzuki Team in Spain.

"It's been four years since I raced at the MX Nationals myself. Time flies. Who knows, maybe this will get me keen to race again!"

For the Zero Seven team riders Monea and Picard, having a talent and hero like Hurley in their corner is a definite confidence booster leading into Round Three of the MX Nationals series.

"I've spent the most of this week riding with Hurlz. He has really been helping me with my race pace and technique. It's so good to have someone like him to ride with and chase on the track too." Dion Picard said.

MX2 competitor Adam Monea, comes into his home race in eighth place in the series points, however proved in Conondale that the podium is well within his grasp. The opportunity to pull knowledge from a former champion invaluable to his strategy for this weekend.

"I've always looked up to and admired Daryl. said Monea. "He was always so smooth as a racer and his line selection was always so good to watch. He knows how to win at the Wonthaggi track, so I'll listen to every piece of advice he can give me"

The new look Zero Seven Motorsports team will again be without its MX1 competitor in Ross Beaton. Beaton, another local to the Wonthaggi circuit fractured his Tibia and Fibular prior to Round One and isn't expected to return until at least round six.
