Chilean rally raid star Pablo Quintanilla has officially announced his retirement from professional motorcycle racing, closing the book on one of the most successful careers in South American off-road history.
Born in Valparaíso, Chile, the 37-year-old began his journey on two wheels at just six years old, competing in motocross before transitioning to rally raid where he would become a force on the world stage. Quintanilla is best known for his smooth, consistent style and mental toughness—qualities that earned him two FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championships (2016, 2017) and three Dakar Rally podiums, including runner-up finishes in 2020 and 2022.
He rode for Husqvarna Factory Racing between 2013 and 2020, where he claimed the majority of his international rally wins and cemented himself as one of the sport’s elite. In 2021, he made the switch to Monster Energy Honda HRC, quickly proving a valuable asset by winning the Rallye du Maroc and becoming a regular contender for Dakar podiums.

Quintanilla’s retirement comes in the wake of a heavy crash during Stage 8 of the 2025 Dakar Rally, which left him briefly unconscious and with multiple contusions. Though he recovered physically, the incident prompted deep reflection and ultimately led to his decision to step away from competition.
“Today was a very important day for me,” Quintanilla said during his retirement announcement. “I have announced my retirement from professional motorcycling after 15 years of giving my all. I have had the opportunity to win two world championships and to be on the podium of the Dakar 3 times.”
“I had the opportunity to fulfil several of my dreams, which makes me very proud. The last few years of my career have been a pleasure to be part of the Monster Energy Honda HRC team. I leave the motorcycle world with a smile on my face. I have lived what I had to live, I have made many friends along the way, and I will keep those moments.”
With 15 years of elite-level racing behind him, Pablo Quintanilla departs as Chile’s most accomplished rally raid rider and one of the most respected figures in the sport globally.
