18 year old Australian rider Ashley Day has landed in the USA and is having a ball competing in the A250 class for the 2011 GNCC series.
At the first round in Florida, with a track like he has never seen before Ashley went out with finishing in mind and came in a credible 4th in class and 24th outright.
"those whoops and palmetto roots are crazy" said Ashley during his first refuel. Moving onto the Georgia round, in terrain more familiar Ash recovered from a poor start to finish 6th in Class." The track was great, very close to what we race at home" remarked Ash.
To keep up to speed between rounds he entered one of Buren Hamrick's Mid East hare scrambles at the Rock House . Ashley entered the AA Expert class and from the flag fall was right in the hunt. Working his way from 3rd in lap 1 to 1st in lap 3, Ash had a stellar battle with GNCC A250 young gun Grant Baylor, with nothing separating them for the remaining 4 laps the boys battled it out, with Ash coming in with the win and Grant a second behind him. The boys congratulated each other after the race and it was great to see the sport of motorcycling bringing together up and coming riders from different sides of the world.
Its also been great for Ashley to catch up and hang out with Aussie Ex pats like Josh Strang, Shane Watts and Ben Kearney.
Enjoying riding his YZF250 , Ashley will be competing at the 1st four rounds of the GNCC before heading back to Australia to compete in their Australian 4 Day Enduro where he is on the Victorian State team.
Now Ash is fully focused on a good result at Steels Creek in North Carolina.
Everyone in America has been really great and it's really important to Ashley that the following people are thanked. Josh Strang, The watts Family, Force accessories, , Costanzo Race Suspension, MAXXIS tyres, The Butler training facility Florida , & Rock.
