After eight rounds, five wins, 10 podiums and two pole positions, Karl Muggeridge took the crown of the German IDM Superbike Championship here at Hockenheim with a lead of 19 points in front of Werner Daemen and Martin Bauer.
Muggeridge and the HRP team where delighted to take the title in his first IDM season after a lot of up and downs throughout the year.
His title rivals Bauer and Werner Daemen took third and second in the Championship, after they both took a podium finish at the final round here at Hockenheim and the battle for the title wasn‰Ûªt over till the last race.
Muggeridge who was having problems with his bike in the first race took an 8th and 9th place and played it safe to bring the Championship home.
"First race we had a good start and then less than a lap later it was red flagged. In the re-start I didn‰Ûªt get as good a start, got boxed in but anyway by lap three I discovered I was in a bit of trouble," Muggeridge explained.
"The Bike started to misbehave and I had a unbelievable amount of chatter so it was a matter of survival until the end. Second race we chose a different tyre and then bike behaved a whole lot better, I still didn‰Ûªt have a bike where I could win the race so I just played it safe and brought it home safely.
"The results for the day was definitely not what we set out to achieve on the Friday but we did the majority of our work in the other races so it wasn‰Ûªt necessary for us to win the races.
"I really happy we won the champion ship.
"The team and me worked so hard this year, we did more than 12 tests and we earned every point we made.
"I would like to thanks the whole crew for all their efforts they‰Ûªve put in through the season, it was great working with professional staff," the Australian concluded.
