The Motocross Riders Association (MRA) is ready to play host to the states fastest Motocross riders at the opening round of the 2014 Peter Stevens Motocross Championship this Saturday and Sunday the 3rd and 4th of May.

Over 350 riders in total will embark on the clubs motocross track located on Wilkins Rd Gillman in a bid to kick of their 2014 championship aspirations in the best possible fashion.

Leading the field into to battle in the premier Expert Open (MX1) class will be reining state champion and local MRA club member James Booth-Elliot aboard his SGR Suzuki RM-Z 450.

Booth-Elliot raced to an impressive victory in the 2013 championship and will be looking to repeat that performance in 2014.

The biggest challenge Booth-Elliot will face on the weekend will come from the rider he mentioned, Kirk Gibbs.

Gibbs who hails from Mount Gambier will be making a special appearance in what will likely be the only round of the 2014 he contests as he uses the Gillman round as a lead in event to the third round of the National Championship that is set to take place at Murray Bridge on the 18th of May.

Gibbs is currently ranked 2nd in the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 Championship after round three of the ten round series and comes into the South Australian state title fresh off the back of a moto win and equal first place result on the national stage last weekend in Victoria.

‰ÛÏIt will be good to come back to South Australia to race, it will be a pretty low pressure race for me.‰Û

While Gibbs will be the biggest name on the start line this weekend in the Open Expert class, there will be a host of riders looking to match his pace and ensure they leave round one with maximum points.

Local MRA club members will be leading the way with the likes of Matt Clarke, former national top runner and renowned Yamaha Institute of Motocross Coach Shane Metcalfe and Kawasaki Mounted Danny Lean along with riders of the like of Tyson Whillas, Tyler Lange and another former national front running Shaun Williamson will ensure the crowd are kept on their toes as they all bang bars up front.

It will be another Suzuki mounted rider who will lead the Expert Lites (MX2) class into battle on Sunday.

Intensity Suzuki‰Ûªs Jett Anderson raced to an emotional championship win in 2014 after the passing of his mother in the lead up to the final round.

‰ÛÏIt is going to be an extremely tough year racing all the boys again, with all the boys from last year plus Luke and Banksy returning to the Lites class,‰Û

Arbon is looking forward to lining up with his new look team that includes local club member Jordan Waters who will also line up in the Expert lites class.

‰ÛÏI am looking getting back and racing the South Australian state titles again, it is always a great series and there are plenty of guys going well so it should be a great.‰Û
