After MotoConcepts Team owner Mike Genova revealed on the PulpMX show that Serial Hard Case Christophe Pourcel had been fired from the MotoConcepts team, the team has now put out an official statement confirming the news.
After a late signing, and as a result some poor results, the Frenchman went AWOL after the Texas round of the AMA Motocross Championship as team management urged him to continue suspension testing in California, unable to contact him the team turned up at High Point for the last round in the hope he would turn up but he was a no show. As a result the team have terminated his services.
"The decision was made based on Christophe Pourcel not meeting the contractual demands and obligations to the team and the many sponsors who supported him in his effort to compete in the very stacked and competitive 450 class," the statement read.
Team owner Mike Genova commented, "It's a real bummer for everybody involved, our team, mechanics, DV, myself and all of our very supportive sponsors, to include FMF, FMF Energy Drink, Yamaha, GYTR, Oneal, MotoConcepts, Enzo and many others who worked hard to make this deal happen. Unfortunately Christophe was not able to get where he needed to be to feel confident and competitive, and for whatever reason, he was not willing to put in the necessary homework and effort to get there. It's too bad, because all of us at MotoConcepts and our supportive sponsors wanted it to work, and I am very sorry and apologetic that it didn't."
The team is regrouped and very committed to doing everything possible to push their very talented and competitive riders, Tommy Hahn, Kyle Chisholm and Mariana Balbi to a successful and safe 2011 Motocross series.
As far as Pourcel goes there has been no word from him but with Ben Townley heading home for R&R it leaves a seat open at the CLS Kawasaki team in the Motocross World Championship.
