In his rookie AMA Pro Motocross season, Mikkel Haarup recorded his strongest showing yet, securing sixth overall in the 250MX class.
Despite limited track experience in the soft sand conditions, the Triumph Factory Racing rider quickly found his rhythm, qualifying fifth and starting moto one in fourth. Showing raw pace and confidence, he climbed to third briefly before finishing fifth, marking his best moto finish of the season. A tougher start in moto two saw him fall back initially, but Haarup battled hard and made four crucial moves in the final three laps to claim sixth. His combined results lifted him from 11th to eighth in the championship standings.
Reflecting on his day, Haarup said, “The team did a great job with the bike today. The first moto was good – I battled for a position in the top three and eventually took a season-best finish of fifth. There was some bar banging on the start straight in moto two, which forced me to let off a little bit. Things started clicking at the halfway point and I eventually made my way to sixth. I took advantage of some other riders getting tired. I am proud of my performance today, as well as what the team did.”
Triumph Racing America General Manager Jeremy Coker praised Haarup’s performance, saying, “Mikkel had a very, very good day. The first moto was a good indication of where he belongs, then he stayed strong in moto two and showed his true speed after the halfway mark. I am so proud of him.”
With confidence growing in his ability to tackle sand and tougher conditions, Haarup and the Triumph Factory Racing team now set their sights on the iconic RedBud race in Michigan on July 5, aiming to build on this momentum in Round 6 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
