Michael Phillips has finished 10th overall at the fourth round of the 2008 Maxxis British Championship at Lyng in Norfolk last Sunday (May 4th).
The New Zealand champion ended the day with his highest finish for the year to date with 8th overall and now sits tenth in the standings. CAS Honda‰Ûªs Billy Mackenzie took the overall win for the day and in fact has won every moto so far this season to lead the championship standings with a convincing 100% win rate.
"I was looking forward to a dry meeting for a change and the rolling country side of Lyng turned it on for us," Phillips told Fullnoise.
"Practice and qualifying didn‰Ûªt go that great. The sandy track hadn‰Ûªt formed up much and I had trouble with lines and putting a fast lap in. Qualified 17th Moto one I had a bad start and had to fight though on the first lap. I made a mistake a few laps in and went down. It took me half the race to get into it and by the last few laps I had caught up to 11th place and still had more to give. Unfortunately the finish flag came out before I could make my move. I finished up in 12th.
"Moto two I had an average start but made up for it on the next few corners. I settled into 9th and stayed there for most of the race. I made a few little mistakes looking for smoother lines and dropped back to 10th. I managed to get back into things before the finish and ended the race in 9th place. 8th for the day and sitting 10th over all.
"It was a much better round for me at Lyng. I still wasn‰Ûªt happy with a few things over the weekend but getting back inside that top ten was the goal for the weekend and that‰Ûªs what I did. A big thanks to my new mechanic who only flew in from New Zealand two days before. It was good to have him over in such short notice," Phillips concluded.
Our next round of the British Championships is in Ireland on the 22nd of June.
