Max Nagl to undergo more back surgery

Posted:

It is no secret that Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing's Max Nagl put on a heroic display in the second half of the 2011 MX1 World Championship season, riding through the pain of a serious back injury.

The German underwent corrective surgery in Belgium at the end of the season after opting to delay the surgical intervention until all the races were over.

Due to some additional complications that arose from the treatment, Nagl will now undergo a second operation. Despite quite a lot of physical discomfort, he remains firmly optimistic about a successful outcome and is looking forward to returning to training and the factory team.

Following the second operation, Nagl will be required to take one week's complete bed rest and then take it easy for another month. Following that, he should be able to start physical training and will go to Red Bull's high-tech training center in Austria where he will work under the guidance of medical and physical training experts. If all this goes according to plan, he will then be able to move into the next stage of his rehabilitation and resume training on his new KTM racing machine.

Claudio de Carli, manager of the Red Bull Teka KTM's MX1 lineup said he was very much looking forward to Max making a full recovery and rejoining the factory team for intensive training. "I hope to have Max with us as soon as possible and to see him ride the new bike. He is an elite athlete so he is very strong mentally and in good physical condition. We are confident that his recovery will be quick and completely successful. I am very much looking forward to seeing him ride the new KTM 450!"

Scheduled to contest the 2012 MX1 World Championship with teammate and reigning world champion Tony Cairoli, Max Nagl is slated to ride the new 2012 edition of the KTM 450 SX-F factory bike next year.
