Reigning Australian Pro Lite Motocross Champion Ryan Marmont, has decided to withdraw from round two of the Australian Motocross Championship taking place at Penguin in Tasmania this weekend, due to injury.
The Motorex KTM Factory Racer endured a heavy crash at the opening round flying over his motorcycle, hitting the ground so hard he broke his handlebar mounts, and his neck brace which left him concussed. Marmont also wounded his knee and added further damage to an existing ankle injury, which took him out of the race.
With only one week between the first and second motocross round, Marmont has not fully recovered and feels he will do more injury if he doesn‰Ûªt allow his body the time to recover.
Commenting on his withdrawal, Ryan Marmont said, "It‰Ûªs a difficult situation to be in because I‰Ûªm already 30 points down from first place after my crash last week, and missing this round could put me up to 80 points down. A gap this big in points could throw away any chance I have of retaining the number one plate for Motorex KTM.
"This recent injury has badly damaged my knee and caused further damage to an existing ankle injury that I carried throughout the Supercross Championship.
"Doctors have confirmed I will actually require surgery on my ankle to rectify some bone damage and I‰Ûªll find out this week when surgery can take place.
"If we proceed with surgery in the short term I could be off the bike for up to five months and therefore competing in the third round at Conondale on May 6, could also be unlikely.
"I‰Ûªm disappointed but I plan to continue my racing career with Motorex KTM for many years to come and I can‰Ûªt risk doing anymore damage to my body.
"If doctors decide it is best for me to sit out the remainder of the Australian Motocross Championship until I can get surgery, at least I will return for the Supercross Championship stronger than ever.
"I will be meeting with Motorex KTM over the next two weeks to discuss what is best for me and the team with the remainder of the Motocross Championship and a final decision will be made prior to the third round at Conondale on May 6. Our discussions will all depend on when doctors can fit me in for surgery."
