Marmont wins, Reardon and Moss are champions

Nokia MX Nationals - Review Round 9

Posted:

For the 9th round in a row, lady luck delivered perfect racing weather at Lakes Motocross Track in Lake Macquarie, NSW where KTM‰Ûªs Jay Marmont ran away with 1st overall in the Pro-Open Class in the penultimate round of the Nokia MX Nationals 2007. Riding superbly on the hard packed, rocky track, No Fear Honda‰Ûªs Cody Cooper scored equal points with Marmont on the day but placed 2nd overall. Series leader Dan Reardon placed 3rd but earned enough points to make him unbeatable in the 2007 series with 1 round to go. Cooper took out the 1st moto after Motorex KTM's Jay Marmont stole the holeshot from Cool Air Racing‰Ûªs Troy Carrol and series leader Reardon, Reardon quickly came unstuck around a sharp corner on the first lap and dropped back to the rear of the field. When Carrol came off his bike soon after that, it was Marmont in the lead, followed by Cooper and defending champion Craig Anderson following them. Cooper caught Marmont in spectacular fashion in the 2nd half of the Moto and pulled away to eventually finish take the points. After a long battle for 2nd place, Marmont proved too good for local boy Anderson who had to settle for 3rd. Despite not placing, Reardon rode a brilliant race, clawing his way back to finish a very respectable 6th. Moto 2 turned into a battle between Cooper and Marmont with Marmont chasing early leader Cooper down later in the race to take the win and the overall. Reardon watched on as the the battle erupted in front of him and had to settle for 3rd. Despite being a little disappointed with his performance on the day, Reardon was happy to learn that after today he takes top honours in the championship overall. ‰ÛÏWinning this championship is something I have always wanted to do, and this is my first one. I could not have done it without the support of my team and my family‰Û
